I recently got a great opportunity to volunteer for ISSO football U-14 girls for the school. I was volunteering in the escort team, in which we were responsible for assisting the participating students, helping them with any queries or concerns they may have ensure their needs are met effectively. This experience improved my understanding of creativity and personal development. Here’s a glimpse into my journey through the lens of various learning outcomes.

Volunteering with the ISSO provided a valuable opportunity for self-assessment, directly addressing LO1. I honed my communication skills, a crucial asset for my IB studies. However, interacting with diverse groups illuminated the need for enhanced cross-cultural communication strategies. Observing the students’ relief ignited my dedication to service. Furthermore, this experience unveiled my leadership capabilities. I adeptly guided students, ensuring timely arrivals at various venues and addressing their needs. This role underscored my ability to navigate logistical challenges and foster a sense of security, reinforcing my commitment to personal and communal growth. However, I identified areas for growth, particularly in time management. Balancing ISSO responsibilities with academics was challenging. LO4- Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience
Guiding new students as an ISSO escort tested my perseverance in numerous ways. Throughout the tournament, escorting them between venues, ensuring their needs were met, and providing attentive care required consistent effort. Commitment meant adapting to unexpected delays and ensuring everyone felt supported. I developed a system for efficient routing, proactively addressing student needs. Despite challenges, I remained dedicated, demonstrating unwavering commitment. I learned that perseverance is about sustained dedication and problem-solving. This experience reinforced my commitment to serving my community. Through this experience, I strengthened my resilience and dedication, aligning with CAS Learning Outcome 4.
LO5- Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively
Volunteering with the ISSO underscored the power of collaborative effort (LO5). As being a part of the escort team we relied on constant communication, sharing real-time updates and coordinating logistics. There were tasks divided based on individual strengths, maximising efficiency. Pre-event planning sessions fostered shared responsibility and problem-solving. We collectively supported students, pooling knowledge and resources. The benefits were clear: students felt welcomed and informed. We operated seamlessly, minimizing confusion. This experience highlighted the importance of clear communication and mutual respect. Working collaboratively enhanced my interpersonal skills. Teamwork proved essential to our success, demonstrating the power of unity in service.
