FSMUN – OC – Creativity

Being an Organising committee member in FSMUN 11.0 was an incredibly rewarding experience. Contributing in working behind the scenes to ensure smooth operation on the day of conference involved a myriad of tasks to be accomplished. From coordinating logistics to commencing in creative acts in order to announce crises in committees. Being an OC member in the outreach committee, I got to work with an immensely passionate team and managed diverse tasks to foster a platform in which every delegate receives an enriching experience. The role of an OC member provided me with an opportunity to showcase my leadership and creativity skills. It not only helped me build confidence but also taught me the importance of teamwork and dedication. To commence, as an on day OC I got to experience a sense of accomplishment when the MUN turned out to be a success, with great lobbying done by the delegates and positive feedbacks received by the executive board members.

LO1 – Identify Own Strengths and Develop Areas for Growth

As an organiser, I had the opportunity to recognise my strengths, such as leadership, problem-solving, or time management. At the same time, I can identify areas for improvement, such as communication, delegation, or handling high-pressure situations. Through this experience, I continuously developed my skills by taking on new challenges, whether it be managing logistics, providing assigned EB’s with required resources, coordinating with delegates, or moderating discussions.

LO5 – Demonstrate Skills and Benefits of Working Collaboratively

Organizing an MUN conference requires effective teamwork and cooperation with other committee members. Each person plays a role in ensuring the event’s success, from handling delegate registration to preparing study guides and managing logistics. This experience helped me understand the importance of collaboration, active listening, and conflict resolution. I had the opportunity to work with a team that was proactive and kept me on my toes at all times. Working in a team also allowed me to appreciate different perspectives and develop interpersonal skills essential for future academic and professional settings.

LO6 – Engagement with Issues of Global Significance

MUN conferences focus on debating and addressing pressing global issues, such as climate change, human rights, and international security. As an organizer, I contributed to fostering discussions on these topics, preparing background materials, and ensuring that debates remain informed and impactful. This engagement deepened my understanding of international affairs and encouraged me to think critically about real-world problems and potential solutions.

Through my role in the MUN organising committee, I develop self-awareness, enhance my ability to work collaboratively, and actively engage with global challenges. This experience not only aligned with these IB Learning Outcomes but also equipped me with essential skills for leadership and future endeavours.
