During Pi Day, we celebrated with a vibrant event featuring various stalls offering games, food, and educational displays. I was an part of the decor team I also played a key role in organizing and managing a food stall that offered a delightful selection of treats, including pancakes, brownies, jeera soda, and mini pizzas.
Our efforts were not only about providing enjoyment but also had a greater purpose. The revenue generated from our food stall was directed toward a donation drive. As part of this initiative, we visited various ashrams and donated essential items. This experience was immensely fulfilling, as it combined creativity, teamwork, and community service. It allowed me to engage actively in service-oriented activities while enhancing my organizational and collaborative skills.
LO1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth:
Participating in the decoration team as well as managing the food stall allowed me to recognize my creativity and organisational strengths. I was able to innovate ideas and came up with ideas that attracted most people so our purpose could be successfully fulfilled. At the same time, I identified areas for improvement, such as time management because multitasking was something I had to do. Multitasking included assembling the pizza, baking it, and delivering it to the stall. The location of the stall and kitchen were not nearby. This is where I was able to improve my multitasking skills but time was something I couldn’t focus on much.
LO2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills:
Setting up and running a food stall presented challenges such as handling large crowds, managing inventory, and ensuring the smooth operation of sales. This experience helped me develop new skills in problem-solving, customer service, and teamwork.
LO3 – Initiate and plan a CAS experience:
As part of the decor team and the food stall organizer, I played a crucial role in planning and executing these components of the event. This involved brainstorming ideas, coordinating with peers, and ensuring everything aligned with the event’s goals.
LO5 – Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively:
Collaborating with the decoration team and other stall members highlighted the importance of teamwork. We divided tasks efficiently, supported each other, and worked together to achieve our shared goals.
LO6 – Engagement with issues of global significance:
By using the revenue generated from the food stall to fund a donation drive, we addressed the broader issue of social responsibility. Visiting ashrams and providing donations reflected our effort to contribute positively to the community.
LO7 – Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions:
The decision to allocate event proceeds for donations required ethical consideration. Ensuring that the funds were used meaningfully Strengthened our commitment to making a difference in the lives of those in need.
