FSMUN is a student-led event organised by both students and teachers, simulating the operations of the United Nations. During this event, students take on the roles of delegates from different countries and work together to discuss global issues, create resolutions, and engage in diplomatic debate. FSMUN provides a platform for students to develop critical thinking, public speaking, and teamwork skills while learning about international relations and global challenges. It fosters a deeper understanding of the world, promoting leadership and encouraging participants to engage in constructive discussions about real-world problems
LO1 – Identify Own Strengths and Develop Areas for Growth
During FSMUN, I assessed my strengths and areas for improvement, particularly in public speaking, research, and leadership. I realized that while I was good at researching global issues, I needed to work on my public speaking and negotiation skills. Through reflection and feedback from peers, I focused on improving these areas by practicing speeches and seeking advice from more experienced delegates. This process helped me build confidence and grow personally.
LO2 – Demonstrate that Challenges Have Been Undertaken, Developing New Skills
FSMUN presented several challenges, such as debating complex global issues and persuading other delegates. I stepped out of my comfort zone, developing new skills in diplomacy, negotiation, and conflict resolution. Overcoming obstacles like opposing viewpoints and time constraints taught me how to improve my public speaking and critical thinking, and these skills will be valuable in real-world scenarios as well.
LO6 – Engagement with Issues of Global Significance
FSMUN allowed me to engage with pressing global issues like climate change, human rights, and international conflicts. Through research and debate, I gained a deeper understanding of these complex problems and the importance of international cooperation. This experience inspired me to take an active role in addressing global challenges and contributed to my broader worldview.
LO7 – Recognise and Consider the Ethics of Choices and Actions
In FSMUN, I was often required to represent countries with positions that didn’t always align with my personal values. This forced me to think ethically, balancing the interests of the country I was representing with the broader implications of my actions on global diplomacy. It taught me to consider the ethical dimensions of decisions and the responsibility that comes with them in shaping international relations.
