FSMUN 11.0 was a really valuable experience for me. I performed lots of tasks and showed immense dedication, hence counting this as my project. I was the Organising Committee Head of Communications & Marketing. To begin with, I created the FSMUN 11.0 Conference Website, which was time-consuming. This website can now be used for all future editions. I drafted and sent communication emails to delegates for various purposes – for e.g. payment confirmation, conference updates, training sessions, and other details. I replied to all queries sent out by delegates or parents. I created the Whatsapp groups for delegates and communicated in order to share updates. I also performed other duties such as helping my peers with planning, logistics, food choices, and content-writing. I regularly showed up to Early-ins and Pull-outs. As the conference dates came near, I also helped with decoration.
During the conference, I was also part of the Executive Board. I was the chair of the committee United Nations Human Rights Council, where the agenda was ‘Addressing the Refugee Crisis in West Asia’. I ensured that the committee was beginner-friendly for first-timers whilst also making it interesting using motions such as Ice-Breaking Activity, Open Floor, Crisis, and 3v3 Debates. I received lots of positive feedback from my delegates.
LO1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
Working on FSMUN 11.0 helped me see my strengths in communication and organization. Writing emails and making the website showed I could explain ideas clearly and handle detailed work. I also realized I needed to improve my time management, especially when things got busier closer to the event. Thinking about these areas helped me grow as an organizer and team member. I realised I am really good at chairing committees. I have been a delegate in lots of conferences. Hence, when I’m on the other side of the table, I can relate to what the delegate must be thinking and make decisions accordingly. I also improved my social skills because I ran the committee with my co-chair. We divided our roles and responsibilities so that the committee can function smoothly. Decoration is an area of growth for me because I’m not a very creative person. Thankfully, my team members helped me learn this skill.
LO2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills
Creating the FSMUN 11.0 website was particularly challenging as it was my first time building a reusable platform for a large-scale event. The task was time-consuming and required learning new technical skills. Additionally, balancing multiple roles while ensuring quality in every task pushed me to adapt and grow. These challenges helped me improve my work ethic and time management. I also improved my decision-making skills as while chairing the committee.
LO3 – Initiate and plan a CAS experience
Planning FSMUN 11.0 was a highly structured process. I initiated tasks such as drafting emails, designing the website, and managing communications well in advance to ensure everything gets operated smoothly rather than procrastinating. I collaborated with other team members. I contributed to the logistics for training sessions and helped create detailed plans for the conference. Taking on these responsibilities taught me how to lead and plan effectively for a large-scale event. Most importantly, I was dedicated and committeed to this project. I realised that our planning will affect more than 300 delegates – so there was no scope for error!
LO4 – Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience
The weeks leading up to FSMUN 11.0 were intense, with countless emails to respond to, miscellaneous duties being piled up, and logistics to manage. Despite the workload, I remained dedicated to ensuring that I completed my work with attention to detail. Even during moments of pressure, I stayed committed to my role, which paid off in the success of the event.
LO5 – Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively
FSMUN 11.0 was a team effort, and my role required constant communication and collaboration with other Core Committee members. From coordinating training sessions to discussing ideas, teamwork was essential. I learned how to share responsibilities, support each other, and work towards a common goal, which made the event a huge success.
LO6 – Engagement with issues of global significance
As Chair of UNHRC, I led discussions on global issues like human rights and international conflicts. The agenda of my committee, refugee crisis, is a pressing global issue. Helping delegates with debates and resolutions helped me learn more about these topics and their real-world effects. This role showed me how important it is to raise awareness and have open discussions about global challenges.
LO7 – Recognise and consider the ethics of choices and actions
Throughout FSMUN 11.0, I made ethical decisions in my roles as an Executive Board member. I ensured that all my delegates were getting a fair chance to represent themselves. Whenever I got the chance, I allowed allowed such delegates to speak first who hadn’t spoken a lot. I constantly motivated each and every delegate to speak, and also appreciated them after they made attempts to do so. I treated all delegates with respect. I ensured that my delegates are making an ethical use of language and not disrespecting anyone else. Me and my co-chair carefully and ethically shortlisted candidates for awards based on various different criteria. We had to make tough but ethical choices. Ultimately, our committee was a success!
