FS Got Talent – Creativity

FS Got Talent was a showcase of the incredible talents within our school community, from breathtaking performances to inspiring acts. I was part of the organizing team, where I majorly contributed to decor. I was also part of the Flash Mob dance performance which acted as an invitation to all the students. Finally, I also took on the exciting role of hosting the event.

LO1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
While hosting, I identified my strengths in public speaking and my ability to engage the audience. While doing decor, I realised some of my strengths were painting and cutting. However, there a major scope for improvement as well. For example, I made some mistakes while cutting irregular shapes, and my paint strokes on the edges of shapes was imperfect as well. My peers helped me learn how to perform these artistic skills using the correct techniques. I was impressed by the ideas of the decor team. One area of growth for me is dancing. I plan on improving this skill by participating in more dances (for e.g. in FSMUN Flash Mob, Farewell Performance, etc).

LO2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills
Performing in the flash mob dance was a completely new experience for me. It was challenging to learn choreography in a short time, but it pushed me out of my comfort zone and improved my teamwork and coordination skills.

LO3 – Initiate and plan a CAS experience
As part of the organizing team, I was involved in planning various aspects of the event. I helped brainstorm the ideas for Decor, prepare the flow of the event, create the hosting script, and finally, ensure that everything ran smoothly on the day of the event. I collaborated with my peers to prepare an engaging event using my organisational and problem-solving skills. This taught me how important good planning is to make an event successful.

LO4 – Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience
The event required weeks of preparation, from rehearsals for the flash mob to setting up decor. Staying committed to each role despite occasional setbacks, like last-minute changes, demonstrated my dedication to making the event successful. I consistently showed up to the Early-Ins, further demonstrating my commitment to the event.

LO5 – Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively
FS Got Talent was a team effort. We demonstrated collaboration between organisers, volunteers, teachers, judges, and participants. Working closely with others taught me the value of communication and compromise. There were several conflicts in the journey but we always found a solution regardless of the circumstances. I developed my social skills by accepting responsibility, adopting a variety of group roles, respecting others, cooperating, resolving conflicts, and making decisions as a group.

LO6 – Engagement with issues of global significance
FS Got Talent primarily focused on showcasing local talent, but it also encouraged inclusivity and diversity, as performances highlighted various cultural influences. This experience deepened my understanding of the importance of celebrating different perspectives in a globalized world. For instance, the performances ranged from traditional Indian classical dance performances to band performances of Western songs. I helped curate the flow of the event to ensure there is a balanced presentation of performances.

LO7 – Recognise and consider the ethics of choices and actions:
As a host and organizer, I was mindful of my responsibility to ensure all participants felt appreciated and respected. For instance, during the magic performance, the audience engagement was extremely low. As a host, I had to help attract the audience’s attention so that the child feels more confident while showcasing his magic tricks. Also, for the event’s decor, we made ethical choices such as to reuse waste newspaper and use resources sustainably. We tried using the concept of best out of waste in order to avoid wastage of resources.
