Learning Outcomes: LO1, LO2, LO3, LO4, LO5, LO6, LO7
From December 16 to December 21, our class embarked on a rural immersion experience at Ambapani, where we participated in various activities that enriched our understanding of rural life and sustainability. Through hands-on experiences like Lipan art, bamboo basket making, adventure activities, and a clean-up drive, we developed new skills, learned about teamwork, and reflected on our responsibilities toward the environment and society.
LO1: Identifying Strengths and Areas for Growth
During this trip, I learned a lot about myself. Waking up at 6 A.M. every day for morning exercise was initially challenging, but over time, I realized it helped build discipline and resilience. Trying my hand at Lipan art and basket making also showed me that patience and precision are key skills I need to improve. This trip made me more aware of my abilities and the areas where I can grow.
LO2: Taking on Challenges and Developing New Skills
Each activity presented a unique challenge. Learning to weave baskets from bamboo strips required careful attention to detail and steady hands, while the adventure activities pushed me to overcome my fears. The clean-up drive made me realize the importance of taking responsibility for our surroundings. These experiences helped me develop problem-solving skills and a stronger sense of determination.
LO3: Planning and Initiating Activities
During our stay, we had to take initiative and plan some activities ourselves. Whether it was organizing the clean-up drive, preparing for our visit to the village, or figuring out what food items to buy, we had to think ahead and coordinate with one another. This improved my ability to plan, make decisions, and adapt to new situations.
LO4: Commitment and Perseverance
Our daily routine required dedication, especially waking up early and participating in physical activities. Some tasks, like basket weaving and Lipan art, were time-consuming and required patience. The clean-up drive also demanded effort and persistence, as we worked together to make a visible difference in the environment. These moments reinforced the value of perseverance and staying committed to responsibilities.
LO5: Teamwork and Collaboration
Working together was crucial throughout the trip. Whether it was helping each other with intricate art techniques, supporting one another during adventure activities, or coordinating tasks during the clean-up drive, teamwork played a key role. I realized how effective communication and cooperation can make tasks easier and more enjoyable.
LO6: Engagement with Global Issues
Through the clean-up drive and our interactions with the local community, I became more aware of the impact of waste management and environmental conservation. Seeing firsthand how waste affects rural areas reinforced the importance of sustainability. This experience encouraged me to be more mindful of my ecological footprint and inspired me to take small steps toward environmental responsibility in my daily life.
LO7: Ethical Considerations and Responsibilities
Visiting the village and engaging with the local community gave me a deeper appreciation of their way of life. Buying food items from them supported their economy, and it was important to approach the experience with respect and cultural sensitivity. The immersion helped me understand the ethical responsibility we have to acknowledge and support different communities while ensuring our actions are respectful and beneficial.
Conclusion
The rural immersion at Ambapani was a transformative experience that helped me develop valuable life skills, deepen my awareness of global issues, and strengthen my sense of responsibility. It taught me the importance of adaptability, perseverance, and teamwork while also allowing me to appreciate the simplicity and richness of rural life. This journey has left a lasting impact, inspiring me to continue exploring ways to contribute positively to society and the environment.
