Rock Climbing – Activity

For my CAS activity, I participated in rock climbing, which required me to arrive early in the morning and climb an artificial wall using safety equipment like harnesses and helmets. This activity was both physically and mentally challenging, but it also gave me an opportunity to improve my fitness, focus, and determination. I think this experience was really valuable as it pushed me to step out of my comfort zone and helped me develop new skills.

LO1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for personal growth

One of the main things I realized during rock climbing was how much my upper body strength needed improvement. In the beginning, I struggled a lot to pull myself up and keep my grip on the climbing wall. But after a few attempts, I started noticing that my body was adapting, and my technique was improving. This experience helped me realize that I have the strength to keep going when things get hard and that I can develop my physical strength with consistent practice. I also realized that my problem-solving skills improved when I started planning my climbing route to make it easier for myself. This taught me that by identifying my weaknesses and strengths, I can always work on getting better.

LO2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills

Rock climbing was definitely a challenge for me because it required a lot of physical strength, balance, and quick decision-making. Initially, I found it really hard to figure out which steps to take next or how to position my hands and legs to avoid falling. But after a few days of practice, I started getting better at planning my route while climbing and maintaining my balance. This developed my critical thinking and problem-solving skills. I also learned how to stay calm under pressure, especially when I was halfway up and felt like giving up. Completing each climb successfully made me realize that tackling challenges head-on can lead to surprising results.

LO4 – Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience

One thing that was really tested during this experience was my perseverance. There were times when I felt like I couldn’t climb any further or that I was too tired to continue. But I knew that if I gave up, I wouldn’t be able to complete my CAS activity and gain the experience I was looking for. So I kept pushing myself to climb higher and faster every time. Showing up early in the morning for multiple days and continuing to climb despite muscle soreness required a lot of commitment from my side. But in the end, I was proud that I didn’t give up and completed the activity successfully. This experience showed me that staying committed to something, even when it’s tough, always brings positive results.

Looking back, I feel that rock climbing was one of the most challenging yet rewarding experiences I’ve had. It helped me realize my physical weaknesses and also taught me that with practice and patience, I can improve any skill. I also learned that pushing through tough situations and staying committed is very important, not just in physical activities but in life in general. This activity was not only about climbing a wall but also about climbing my personal barriers of doubt and fear. I feel proud that I took this challenge and came out stronger, both mentally and physically.
