Volunteering at the school university fair’s information desk was an insightful and enriching experience that allowed me to develop my communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills. Assisting students, parents, and university representatives in navigating the fair presented both challenges and learning opportunities, making this CAS experience highly valuable.
LO1: Identifying Strengths and Areas for Growth One of my key strengths during this experience was my ability to interact confidently with visitors and provide clear information about the event layout and schedules. My organizational skills helped ensure that queries were addressed efficiently, allowing attendees to have a smooth experience. However, I realized that I could improve my ability to handle unexpected situations, such as last-minute changes in the fair schedule or directing a large crowd during peak hours. By reflecting on this, I recognized the need to stay adaptable and enhance my crisis-management skills.
LO2: Overcoming Challenges and Developing New Skills A major challenge I faced was managing multiple inquiries simultaneously while maintaining composure. At times, students and parents had specific and urgent questions about university presentations or admissions officers, requiring me to think on my feet. To tackle this, I developed quick decision-making skills and learned how to prioritize tasks effectively. Additionally, I improved my ability to provide concise yet informative responses, ensuring that visitors received the assistance they needed promptly.
LO5: Collaborative Skills and Teamwork Benefits Working alongside my fellow volunteers and school staff highlighted the importance of teamwork. Effective communication and coordination were essential, especially when redirecting visitors to different areas or ensuring that all queries were covered. I learned to rely on my team members when handling overwhelming situations and contributed by supporting others when they needed assistance. This experience reinforced my belief that collaboration fosters efficiency and creates a positive working environment.
Overall, volunteering at the university fair’s information desk was an excellent opportunity to develop key personal and interpersonal skills. I identified areas for growth, tackled challenges that pushed me out of my comfort zone, and strengthened my ability to work collaboratively. This experience not only enhanced my confidence but also equipped me with valuable skills that I can apply in future leadership and organizational roles.
