ISSO U-17 Karate tournament – Activity

Participating in the ISSO (International Schools Sports Organization) Under-17 Karate Tournament was an unforgettable experience, pushing me to test my skills against top competitors. It was not just about winning but about learning, growing, and pushing my limits. As part of my CAS (Activity) experience, this tournament helped me develop crucial skills while demonstrating resilience and commitment.

LO1: Identifying Strengths and Areas for Growth

This tournament gave me the perfect opportunity to evaluate my strengths and areas that needed improvement. My agility, speed, and defensive techniques in kumite (sparring) were my strong points, allowing me to win crucial rounds. However, I realized that my kata (form demonstrations) needed more precision and refinement. Competing at this level helped me identify these areas and motivated me to work harder on my techniques.

LO2: Taking on Challenges and Developing New Skills

The competition was tough because you had very skilled players from different schools showing off new techniques and strategies. Fighting strong opponents meant both physical and mental challenges for me: I had to adjust and anticipate movements and counter them. This experience helped me develop my karate techniques and improve my critical thinking under pressure, a skill useful in sports and life.

LO4: Demonstrating Perseverance and Commitment

The tournament required hard work and dedication to prepare. It was a challenge for me to balance karate with my studies and other activities, but I was committed. I stood firm when I had to fight tough matches, even against losing in the semifinals. Finishing third place was a proud moment for me, but when I think about it, the journey shaped my understanding of persistence, hard work, and self-discipline.

The ISSO karate competition was more than just sport; it was a learning experience that taught me a great deal as a martial artist and an individual. I left with self-realizations, additional skill sets, and a focus on improvement. This has ignited an even greater flame of passion in my pursuing karate, endeavoring toward grander accomplishments in the future!
