Rock climbing has always been an activity I’ve enjoyed, but it had been a long time since I last took on the challenge. Over the course of four days, I had the opportunity to climb again, testing my strength, flexibility, and balance. Each session, we climbed a wall once or twice, ensuring full safety, and even tried belaying; an essential skill in which you manage the safety rope for another climber.
Returning to this activity after so long made me realize how much I had to push myself. The initial fear was still there, but my excitement to take on the challenge overpowered it. As I climbed, I could feel my muscles working, my coordination improving, and my confidence growing. I was reminded of how perseverance plays a crucial role in overcoming challenges. Even when my arms felt tired or the next grip seemed too far, I kept going.
This rock climbing experience also connects with the SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-being as engaging in physical activities like climbing enhances strength, flexibility, and balance, contributing to overall fitness and mental well-being. Overcoming challenges and pushing personal limits not only builds physical endurance but also boosts confidence and resilience, reducing stress and promoting a healthier lifestyle. By staying active and embracing challenges, I am reinforcing the importance of well-being and a balanced, adventurous approach to life.
Beyond the technical skills, this CAS experience helped me grow as a risk-taker. It encouraged me to face my fears, trust my abilities, and embrace challenges. Each climb felt like a small victory, proving that stepping out of my comfort zone leads to new achievements. This experience has inspired me to seek more adventurous activities and continue developing my resilience and determination.
LO2 : Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills
It was evident as I undertook a physical and mental challenge that required me to push my limits. Although I had climbed before, it had been a long time, so I had to rebuild my strength, flexibility, and balance while also learning a new skill called belaying. Where, managing the safety rope for another climber required focus, responsibility, and trust, all of which contributed to my skill development.
LO 4 : Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience
It was demonstrated through my perseverance and commitment throughout the experience. Climbing repeatedly, even when it was physically demanding, required determination. There were moments of fatigue and hesitation, but I remained committed to improving and completing each climb. This experience reinforced the importance of persistence, proving that with effort and dedication, I could overcome obstacles and achieve personal growth.
