This navratri season, we had yet another edition of the staff garba fest. The school organizes a garba event for students every year, and the staff often works to create the best event for them without getting a chance to play garba for themselves. So this was an opportunity for them to relax and enjoy the tunes of garba surrounded by the alluring decor we created for them.
LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process.
As a part of the decor team of a traditional event there were a few challenges I had to face. The first one being that I had to come up with appealing designs for the event that were cohesive with the indian traditional theme of the event. As a team we brainstormed and came up with a few decor ideas after research. We then further faced issues with time management since we had just one day to set the entire decor up for the event before it started in the evening. We improved our time management skills through this.
LO5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively.
To tackle the decor for such a large event, there is a need for effective communication within the team members to ensure that everyone is on the same page. Problem-solving could also be tackled better when there are multiple brains working together and focusing on the major issues coming up in the event. The benefits of the same were that there were more creative ideas upcoming and there was a higher efficiency rate of working and we could complete all required tasks in the given time.
LO7: Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions.
While planning the decor, we needed to ensure that our decor ideas were respectful of the traditional indian culture and that we unintentionally do not make use of any cultural symbols inappropriately. We also had to consider the ethical implications of using unsustainable resources while making the decor for the event. We avoided making use of single-use plastic or materials like styrofoam and ensured that we mostly re-used resources from past events to minimize waste as much as possible. We also tried making decor items that can be used for further events so that we could make the most of the resources we were using.
