Global Odyssey was an event organized by the Business Management and Economics team which made students experience the feeling of running a small business by selling goods or by providing services. This was a great opportunity for me to learn how to run a stall, what are the requirements and more. The stall idea which I had was to run a football game stall where 2 participants will face off each other and try to score the most points by scoring in goal posts each dedicating specific points.
Learning Outcome 3- Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience
Running a stall is not something which you can do on the day itself, it requires a lot of prior planning to be executed efficiently and properly. Keeping this in mind, the planning of the same begin 15 days prior to the event where we decided what games will the stall offer. Then we decided the name of the stall and created a logo for the same. Later on, we went on to ask for permission for the objects such as goal post’s and football prior to the event. So overall, it took a lot of planning to execute the final thing which was football fun stall
Learning Outcome 4 – Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences
A lot of commitment and perseverance was required to execute the stall. With all the deadlines and homework submission already there, I was required to create some time and spend it on planning for global odyssey. Such as deciding the name itself took around 3-4 days and even finalising a idea took a lot of time. We noted down multiple ideas and at last selected this idea due to which, a lot of time was to be taken out and spend it on deciding this. Furthermore, during the day of the event, even after there were soo many stalls, I was required to stay at my stall and not rome around and explore which was really difficult. Overall, it took a lot of perseverance to successfully execute the plan.
Learning Outcome 5 – Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively
The stall didn’t only consisted of me alone, it was a collaboration with 4 of my other friends also in it. Meaning it was a collaborative task where teamwork played a huge role. We all decided what our roles would be, such as 3 of us would be saying at the stall and other 2 will be calling people from public to try out the game (basically marketing our stall). Furthermore, deciding the game, name and logo also was a group task which required all 5 of us sitting together, listening to others idea and selecting the best idea without having any sort of conflict overall. This improved my teamwork skills and also made me an open minder allowing me to listen to all of my friend’s idea for the stall.
To conclude, Global Odyssey overall improved my communication skills and collaborative skills by even making me a communicator and an open minded person. It gave me an experience of how it feels to run a business by looking into all the profits, the total revenue, the cost, marketing and many other things.
