The experience of volunteering at Bal Mela delivered substantial fulfillment to me. Our school organized the event to create enjoyment for children who grew up in disadvantaged circumstances through interactive games and entertainments. Among the assigned duties I had been given the task of organizing a dodgeball game so kids could both enjoy themselves and understand dodgeball fundamentals.
LO2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills
Being responsible for leading the dodgeball game required me to overcome different difficulties. I introduced core dodgeball techniques together with simplified rules to children because they were new to playing this activity. Part of the group wanted to participate but other members showed restraint because they doubted their personal skills. Understanding the significance of clear game explanations became clear to me because I needed to make the game rules easy to understand and entertaining. My instructions required modification so they were appropriate for various comfort levels that each participant exhibited. My leadership responsibilities during the event caused me to develop patience skills through motivating reluctant children while delivering enjoyable experiences to all participants.
LO3 – Initiate and plan a CAS experience
So much more than games involved at Bal Mela since it demanded careful planning for success. We organized activities with other volunteers while setting up play areas before establishing rules that maintained the smooth operation. The process of managing the dodgeball game included designing the game plan along with area setup and deciding equal turn distributions among the participants. My experience taught me about the importance of organization for managing large numbers of participants as I learned better time management skills for event scheduling.
LO5 – Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively
The peak moment during this experience came when I worked with other volunteers. The success of this event depended on teamwork which involved setup preparation as well as direct supervision of the children. All members joined together when one person experienced issues managing big groups because they helped without any delay. Our team supported the children by cheering them along their activities while preventing any kid from feeling alone. The collaborative efforts between participants brought life and engagement to the event since teamwork demonstrates what people gain when they unite to accomplish goals.
LO6 – Engagement with issues of global significance
Bal Mela heightened my awareness about societal disparities because children lacked standard recreational options. The children lack regular access to structured play activities although this experience normally comes naturally to most children. This experience allowed children to grasp the pleasure of sports while practicing teamwork showing the essential need to provide all children equal recreational opportunities despite their personal background. The experience taught me about the importance of creating access for all and motivated me to seek methods which will provide play opportunities along with learning access for all individuals.
LO7 – Recognise and consider the ethics of choices and actions
We paid continuous attention to our behavior along with our interaction styles with each child during the entire event. All children should receive equivalent opportunities to participate which required being both inclusive and encouraging during the activity. To encourage the reluctant children who showed hesitation I dedicated extra energy toward building their self-assurance while creating a welcoming environment for them. My experience highlighted the ethical duty teachers face when handling such situations especially when caring for impressionable children who learn from our actions.
Conclusion
Participation in Bal Mela proved to be deeply rewarding because of its educational value. The experience not only delivered pleasure to the children but simultaneously taught me essential leadership and teamwork principles combined with adaptability lessons. Their joyful state from this experience confirmed that all my work paid off which now motivates me to find additional ways to support my community.
