I participated in the ISSO(international schools sports organisation) Basketball tournament. Where International schools from across the nation participate in the physical battle through sports. It not only provides students with high level tournaments, but also allows us to experience and meet different people from multiple schools and organisations.
Learning Outcome 1: Identify your own strengths and develop areas for personal growth.
I, as an individual, was confident in my game and thought that we had a chance to get good results, even win the tournament. But later in the tournament we realised we lack a lot of skills to be a successful team and I also had a lot of stuff to work upon to help and support my team. The teams there were way more experienced and skilled. The competition there was incomprehensible and in front of the other players I was very incompetent and wasn’t able to fulfill my goal. I set my goal but wasn’t able to complete it. I have a lot to learn. My goal will be the same for the next tournament and I have understood the requirements and possible competition.
Learning Outcome 5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively.
A basketball tournament requires a team. While I had to also work on myself, a team sport requires teamwork and a collaborative effort. I learned a huge amount of cooperation and I also learned how to work with other people, who have different perspectives and opinions, while agreeing and disagreeing, but in the end, communicating and coming to a reasonable understanding, while also growing team bonds and friendship.
All in all, participating in this tournament helped me understand and learn more about collaboration and understanding how to work with other individuals and combining different viewpoints and perspectives to perform our best.
