Global Odyssey Experience Reflection
Participating in Global Odyssey by setting up a fashion stall was an incredibly rewarding and educational experience. At the stall, I sold a variety of products, including clutches, makeup blenders, washbags, and more. The experience was not only enjoyable but also insightful as I learned valuable business skills like understanding profit and loss, handling customer interactions, and navigating bargaining with customers. Setting up and running the stall with my friends made the experience even more enjoyable and fostered a strong sense of teamwork and collaboration.
Learning Outcomes Demonstrated:
LO1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
Through this experience, I identified my strength in managing customer interactions and handling sales, but also realized that I could improve my negotiation skills to handle bargaining more effectively.
LO2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills
Managing the stall involved several challenges, such as setting up the display, managing stock, and convincing customers to make a purchase. Overcoming these challenges helped me develop better communication and problem-solving skills.
LO4 – Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience
Despite facing challenges like tough bargaining and periods of slow sales, I remained committed to making the stall a success. Consistently engaging with customers and adjusting our sales strategy showed my perseverance.
LO5 – Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively
Running the stall with my friends required effective coordination and teamwork. We divided responsibilities, supported each other during busy periods, and made joint decisions, which strengthened our collaborative skills.
LO6-Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance
The Global Odyssey experience allowed me to view these issues from an even broader perspective by engaging with cross-cultural discussions on topics such as globalization, sustainability, and social justice. It gave me the opportunity to link what I had witnessed during my immersion and service work to the larger narrative of how these challenges manifest in different contexts across the world. The exposure to diverse voices and perspectives emphasized the importance of international collaboration in addressing problems that affect humanity as a whole.
LO7 – Recognise and consider the ethics of choices and actions
We ensured that our products were priced fairly and treated all customers with respect, even when bargaining became difficult. Making ethical decisions while ensuring customer satisfaction was a key part of the experience.
Overall, Global Odyssey was a fun and educational experience that taught me practical business skills, strengthened my teamwork abilities, and helped me grow as a communicator and problem solver.
