Farewell dance – (creativity)

Farewell Dance Reflection

Preparing for the farewell dance was one of the most challenging yet rewarding experiences I’ve had. For two months, I dedicated myself to learning and perfecting the choreography, often arriving at school early and even getting pulled out of a few classes to practice. Despite the pressure and time commitment, the process was incredibly fun and fulfilling.

We learned multiple dances, each with different styles and coordination, which pushed me to improve my technique and adaptability. The best part was seeing how much the Grade 12 students enjoyed it—their smiles and cheers made all the hard work worth it. The sense of accomplishment and shared joy at the end of the performance made it one of the most memorable moments of my school life.

Connection with Learning Outcomes:

  1. LO1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth.
Through this experience, I realized my strength in picking up new dance routines quickly and working well under pressure. However, I also identified that I could improve my ability to balance academics and extracurricular commitments more effectively.
  2. LO2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills.
Learning multiple dance styles and perfecting them within a limited time frame was a big challenge. It required focus, adaptability, and resilience, especially when we had to make last-minute adjustments to the choreography.
  3. LO4 – Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience.
Committing to early morning practices and extra sessions—even when it got exhausting—required determination and focus. Despite the challenges, I stayed committed until the final performance.
  4. LO5 – Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively.
The success of the dance depended on teamwork and synchronization. We had to communicate effectively, stay in rhythm with each other, and adapt to any last-minute changes as a group. Supporting each other through the process made the final performance stronger.
  5. LO7 – Recognise and consider the ethics of choices and actions.
Respecting the creative vision of the choreographers and ensuring that everyone in the group felt included and valued was essential. We made sure that no one felt left out, and we adapted the routine to make it accessible to everyone.

The farewell dance taught me the value of hard work, patience, and teamwork. It reinforced the idea that success isn’t just about the performance itself but about the effort and collaboration that goes into creating something memorable.
