Educational Camp – HOH

For four weeks, every Saturday, I and other members visited a government school to empower students with essential life skills, team games, communication exercises, and arts and crafts. Through open discussions, we covered crucial topics like good touch vs. bad touch, menstrual health, and mental well-being, helping students build awareness and confidence. Beyond learning, the sessions were filled with laughter, creativity, and shared experiences whether through interactive games that encouraged teamwork or art activities that became a safe space for self-expression. Each week, we watched the students grow more confident, making this journey one of empowerment, connection, and lasting impact.

LO 1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth.
Through this event, I recognized my strengths in communication, leadership, and creating a safe space where students felt comfortable expressing themselves. I effectively simplified complex topics and engaged them through interactive activities. Working with other members also strengthened my teamwork and organizational skills. However, I identified areas for growth, such as improving adaptability to different student needs, enhancing time management to balance learning and activities, and developing greater empathy in handling sensitive discussions. This experience was a valuable journey of self-improvement, helping me build confidence while identifying key areas to refine.

LO 2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills
Throughout this event, I faced challenges that pushed me to develop new skills. Engaging with young students on sensitive topics required adapting my communication style for clarity and comfort. Managing a diverse group taught me patience and adaptability, as some students were shy while others were highly energetic. While balancing lessons with activities improved my time management. Overcoming these obstacles strengthened my public speaking and problem-solving skills, making this experience both rewarding and transformative.

LO 3: Initiate and plan a CAS experience
For this CAS experience, I took initiative in planning and organizing the weekly sessions at the government school alongside my peers. This involved designing engaging activities, structuring discussions on sensitive yet important topics, and ensuring that each session had a clear objective while remaining interactive and age-appropriate. Coordinating with the team required careful collaboration, flexibility, and advance preparation so that we could balance educational content with fun, creative elements. By initiating ideas and contributing to the planning process, I was able to help create a safe and meaningful learning environment for the students

LO 4: Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience
This event required perseverance and commitment as I, along with other NGO members, dedicated four Saturdays to engaging with students and ensuring impactful sessions. Despite challenges like maintaining their attention, addressing sensitive topics, and adapting to different learning styles, I remained committed to making the sessions interactive and meaningful. Consistently planning and delivering lessons while building trust with the students reinforced my dedication to making a lasting impact. Over time, I saw real progress in their confidence and participation, which motivated me to give my best each week.

LO 5: Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively
Working collaboratively with other NGO members was essential in making this event successful. By dividing responsibilities, we ensured each session was well-structured and engaging, whether it involved teaching life skills, leading games, or facilitating creative activities. Effective teamwork allowed us to support one another, adapt to challenges, and create a positive learning experience for the students. I also learned to listen, communicate, and coordinate better, which improved both my leadership and problem-solving skills. This experience reinforced the importance of collaboration in achieving a shared goal and making a greater impact than working alone.

LO 6:  Engagement with issues of global significance
This event addressed issues of global significance by educating government school students on crucial topics like personal safety, mental well-being, and menstrual health. These topics are where they often lack proper knowledge due to social stigma and limited resources. Unlike students in private schools who may have greater access to such information, many government school students grow up in environments where discussions about mental health or personal safety are rare, leaving them vulnerable and uninformed. By fostering awareness and open discussions, we helped bridge this knowledge gap, breaking societal taboos and empowering them with essential life skills. These issues extend beyond local communities, as ensuring children’s rights, well-being, and education are global priorities.

LO 7: Recognise and consider the ethics of choices and actions
Participating in the educational camp made me deeply reflect on the ethical responsibility of my choices, especially in how I taught and interacted with the students. I had to be mindful that my methods of instruction and engagement not only conveyed knowledge but also upheld fairness, respect, and inclusivity. Whether teaching life skills, leading team games, or guiding creative activities, I ensured that every student felt valued and included. I understood that my words and actions had a lasting impact on their confidence and personal growth, making it crucial to set a positive example. By fostering an encouraging and respectful learning environment, I aimed to leave a meaningful impression on the students and the community, reinforcing the importance of making ethical and thoughtful decisions in everything I do.

Overall, This experience was more than just an educational camp it was a journey of growth, learning, and self-reflection. Spending time with the students, teaching them important life skills, and seeing their confidence grow made me realize the true impact of small efforts. It wasn’t always easy; there were challenges in keeping them engaged, handling sensitive topics, and ensuring every session was meaningful. But beyond that, it was also incredibly fun. Interacting with the students, playing games, laughing with them, and watching their creativity shine made every moment special. Through it all, I learned the value of patience, adaptability, and ethical responsibility. More importantly, I saw how much change can happen when we commit to something with sincerity and care.
