For my CAS experience, I volunteered at the Bal Mela, a community service event where I was part of the creative activity team. Along with my partner, I facilitated a face painting activity for students from government schools who visited our school. This experience allowed me to engage with children from diverse backgrounds, providing them with an enjoyable and creative outlet. Through artistic expression, we helped create a joyful atmosphere, encouraged inclusivity, and strengthened our interpersonal skills while making a meaningful impact on the visiting students.
LO1 – Identify Own Strengths and Develop Areas for Growth
During the Bal Mela, I identified my strengths in creativity, patience, and communication. I realized that I could effectively engage with children, making them feel comfortable and excited about the face painting activity. However, I also recognized areas for growth, such as improving my ability to manage multiple children at once while maintaining the quality of my work. Through this experience, I learned to balance efficiency with personal interaction, ensuring that every child felt valued while also keeping up with the demand of the activity. Additionally, this experience aligned with the sustainability goal of Reducing Inequality, as it provided children from government schools with access to creative expression. Through my interactions, I also developed the Caring and Communicator learner profile attributes by making sure each child felt included and valued.

LO5 – Demonstrate Skills and Benefits of Working Collaboratively
The face painting activity required close collaboration with my partner and other volunteers. We had to coordinate our efforts to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for the children. Effective teamwork was crucial, as we divided tasks, communicated our ideas, and adapted to the needs of each child. This experience highlighted the benefits of working collaboratively, as it allowed us to support each other, share creative ideas, and enhance the overall quality of our service. The success of our activity reinforced the importance of cooperation, adaptability, and mutual respect in achieving a shared goal. Furthermore, by working together to provide equal opportunities for all children, we directly contributed to Reducing Inequality. Through this process, I also developed the Open-Minded learner profile attribute, as I embraced different perspectives and adapted to the diverse needs of the children.
LO6 – Engagement with Issues of Global Significance
The Bal Mela addressed the broader issue of inequality in access to creative and recreational opportunities for children from government schools. Many of these children may not have regular exposure to artistic activities, and this event provided them with a unique chance to explore creativity in a fun and supportive environment. By participating in this initiative, I contributed to Reducing Inequality by fostering inclusivity and ensuring that every child had the opportunity to express themselves through art. This experience deepened my awareness of the social disparities in education and access to creative outlets, inspiring me to seek more ways to support such initiatives in the future. In this process, I developed the Reflective learner profile attribute, as I evaluated the impact of our actions and considered ways to improve similar initiatives in the future.

LO7 – Recognise and Consider the Ethics of Choices and Actions
During the event, I was conscious of the ethical responsibility of treating every child with kindness, respect, and fairness. Ensuring that all children had an equal opportunity to participate in the face painting activity was important to me. I made deliberate choices to engage with each child individually, regardless of their background, and encouraged their creative ideas. Additionally, I reflected on how my actions could contribute to a positive experience for the children, recognizing that even small gestures of kindness can make a significant impact on their confidence and sense of belonging. By prioritizing inclusivity and ethical decision-making, I actively contributed to Reducing Inequality. This experience also reinforced my development of the Caring and Reflective learner profile attributes, as I constantly evaluated how my choices affected the children and how I could enhance my impact.
