This year, I had the incredible opportunity to help organize and actively participate in our school’s Garba Fest, a vibrant celebration of traditional Indian dance. This event brought our school community together in a spirited display of culture and teamwork, and I’m grateful for the learning and growth it provided. As a CAS project, Garba Fest allowed me to recognize my strengths, overcome challenges, and collaborate closely with my peers—all of which contributed to a successful and memorable event.
LO1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
Participating in Garba Fest highlighted my strengths in communication and organization, which were instrumental in coordinating the event efficiently. My ability to lead discussions and delegate tasks helped our team stay focused and on schedule. However, I also realized areas for growth, such as time management and multitasking, especially when balancing the demands of event planning with my academic responsibilities. I also recognized a need to improve my ability to stay calm under pressure. Identifying these areas for growth has inspired me to work on better planning and develop techniques to manage stress more effectively.
LO2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills
Organizing Garba Fest came with its fair share of challenges, especially around logistics, such as scheduling, coordinating with performers, and handling unexpected changes. These challenges helped me develop resilience, adaptability, and new skills like quick decision-making, event coordination, and troubleshooting. Facing these obstacles gave me confidence in my problem-solving abilities and underscored the importance of composure in high-stress situations.
LO3 – Initiate and plan a CAS experience
I took this as a initiative to help organize Garba Fest from the outset, taking on multiple responsibilities, from coordinating with participants and handling logistics to managing the event schedule. Collaborating closely with my peers and faculty, we created a structured plan covering budgeting, promotion, and venue organization. This experience reinforced the importance of planning, teamwork, and flexibility to ensure that everything ran smoothly on the day of the event. This involvement gave me practical insight into the importance of thorough preparation and the ability to adapt as needed.
LO4 – Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences
Setting up the decorations and preparing the venue in the days leading up to Garba Fest proved challenging, especially as I was not feeling well. Nevertheless, I remained fully committed, putting forth my best effort to contribute to the setup and support the team. Commitment was essential to the event’s success, as it required consistent engagement, hard work, and presence throughout the planning and execution stages. My enjoyment of the work made it easier to stay committed, and I learned that perseverance is key to achieving any goal.
LO5 – Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively
Working collaboratively was crucial to Garba Fest’s success. Each member of our team took on specific roles, like handling promotions and setting up the venue, allowing us to leverage our individual strengths. Clear communication, mutual respect, and trust were the foundation of our effective teamwork. Collaborating with a dedicated team taught me the importance of these qualities and how collective effort can lead to a well-executed event. The experience helped me grow by contributing my own skills and learning from the talents of others.
Volunteering for Garba Fest was an enriching experience that strengthened my planning and teamwork skills. I was able to identify and build on my organizational abilities while recognizing areas for improvement, such as time management. The challenges I encountered developed my resilience and adaptability, skills that will serve me well in future endeavors. Ultimately, working with a motivated team reinforced the value of shared effort, making this CAS experience rewarding and impactful.
