HDP PS basketball – activity

Playing basketball for a full year in Grade 11 as part of HDP PS Basketball was both challenging and rewarding. It wasn’t just about improving my skills on the court—it was about developing discipline, teamwork, and resilience. Training sessions and matches pushed me to constantly refine my technique, improve my fitness, and strengthen my mental game. Throughout the year, I experienced both victories and setbacks, but every moment contributed to my growth as a player and a team member.

LO1: Identifying Strengths and Developing Areas for Growth

Through this experience, I recognized my strengths as well as areas that needed improvement. My speed, defensive play, and passing skills were strong, allowing me to contribute effectively in fast-break situations and support my teammates. I also played at events like Khel Mahakumbh which helped me develop my skills.

However, I also identified areas for growth, particularly in shooting consistency and ball-handling under defensive pressure. There were moments in games where my hesitation cost my team opportunities, and I knew I had to work on staying composed and confident in high-pressure situations. To improve, I dedicated extra time to shooting drills and ball control exercises, gradually building more confidence in my weaker areas.

LO4: Showing Perseverance and Commitment

Playing basketball for an entire year required dedication and perseverance. Training sessions were often physically demanding, and balancing academics with practice was tough at times. There were moments when I felt exhausted, especially after long school days, but I remained committed to showing up and giving my best effort at every session.

By the end of the year, my stamina, skills, and mental resilience had improved significantly, reinforcing the importance of consistent effort and perseverance in both sports and life.

LO5: Demonstrating Skills and Benefits of Working Collaboratively

Basketball is a team sport, and success depends on cohesion, communication, and trust. Throughout the year, I learned the value of working collaboratively—whether it was through setting up plays, supporting teammates, or making quick adjustments during games. We had to rely on each other’s strengths and adapt to different playing styles, which strengthened our team chemistry over time.

I also developed better communication skills, learning to give and receive feedback constructively. Whether it was calling for a pass, adjusting defensive positions, or encouraging a teammate after a missed shot, I saw firsthand how effective teamwork leads to better performance and a stronger team dynamic.

Final takeaways

Playing Basketball in PS for a full year was a rewarding and transformative experience. It helped me recognize my strengths, improve my weaknesses, and develop perseverance. More importantly, it reinforced the power of teamwork, showing me that success comes from collaboration, not just individual skill.

This experience aligned with the UNSDG Goal of Good Health and Well-being, as it encouraged physical fitness, mental resilience, and balance. I embodied the Communicator learner profile by coordinating with teammates and giving effective feedback, and the Balanced attribute by managing academics, training, and well-being. The discipline, resilience, and teamwork I developed will stay with me beyond the basketball court.
