Play to Beat Cancer – Activity

To complete my experience by doing an activity, I got a chance to be part of a pickleball tournament where all the money that was generated was donated to help people having cancer. Through this way, I was able to be part of a sports tournament as well as contribute to a good cause and help the people in need.

Learning Outcome 1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

While I was part of the tournament, the sport of pickleball was new at that point of time to me. Since I have not played that sport multiple time, my biggest weakness was playing the sport. Thats why, before the tournament, I practiced a little bit during my free time and was able to perform in the tournament however, was petty average compared to other competitors.

Learning Outcome 2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills

During the tournament, I did develop various different skills related to pickleball such as creating different strategies, takign different types of serves, learning when to hit with power or make the ball spin and various different skills. Since pickleball was already a new sport to me, I was not aware of these skills but during the tournament and while practicing, I got to know about these different skills which I was not able to develop and master all of them but I did learn few skills by even looking at the players in the tournament.

Learning Outcome 6 – Engagement with issues of global significance

Even though there was not a direct engagement with a global issue, but by just participating in the tournament and paying registration fees, I played a role in helping the people facing cancer. Since this tournament was organized where the registration fees will be donated in such a way that it will help out people in need, I did help a little bit to a global issue. Cancer is a disease which is really life-threatening and if not cured, can take away your life. But there are many people who cannot afford to cure cancer due to which, they loose their life. By donating such money, I was indirectly able to help the people who were in need to money to cure their disease.
