I will took part in dance at Kalakriti, an inter-school competition, on September 21, 2024. Dance has been an interest of mine since fourth grade, and this competition gives me a chance to perform, test myself with a physically challenging routine, and become a better performer. This activity comes under the Creativity strand of CAS, as it involves both physical effort and artistic expression.
Why Kalakriti?
My life has never been complete without dance, with which I was able to show myself and explore my physical potential. Through joining Kalakriti, I hope to sharpen my skills, develop stamina, and compete competitively. Not only will the event challenge me, but I will also be able to gain knowledge from fellow skilled dancers.
Learning Outcomes Demonstrated
LO1 – Identifying Strengths and Areas for Growth
Through intense practice and competition, I will better appreciate my strengths—be it stage presence, remembering choreography, or technique. Simultaneously, I will also know what areas I have to work on, such as stamina, flexibility, or keeping up with the music.
LO2 – Overcoming Challenges and Acquiring New Skills
Competition at the inter-school level involves challenges—memorizing a complex choreography, fine-tuning movements, and executing them under stress. In order to achieve, I have to extend my boundaries, improve my coordination, and increase my capability of rapidly adjusting to any adjustments in choreography or performing conditions.
LO5 – Exemplifying Collaboration Skills
Although dance would appear to be an individual performance, teamwork will come into play. Whether it involves synchronizing movement with fellow co-performers, receiving input from mentors, or picking up tips from competitors, collaboration will be central to delivering a clean and effective performance.
Learner Profile Attribute: Reflective
Post-performance, I shall sit down to review my performance, audience response, and what I need to improve on. Reviewing my personal contribution and group interaction will enable me to improve my next performances. Positive criticism will form a crucial part of this process, enabling me to improve my skills even further.
Conclusion
Being part of Kalakriti is not all about victory—it is about learning, determination, and personal growth. I will push myself to the limits through this, learn from my fellow dancers, and keep going as a dancer. Regardless of what happens, the experience alone will be a stepping stone towards higher artistic and personal growth.
