Bal Mela is a special event organized to invite underprivileged students to engage in various fun, non-academic activities across the school. As an FS student, I had the opportunity to contribute to this humanitarian cause by volunteering and assisting in the event. My assigned responsibility was to organize and oversee the sack race, ensuring that the children participated enthusiastically and had an enjoyable experience. It was incredibly heartwarming to witness their joy and excitement, as they engaged in the activity with boundless energy and enthusiasm. This experience not only allowed me to develop leadership and organizational skills but also deepened my sense of empathy and social responsibility, as I saw firsthand the impact of creating moments of happiness for those who have limited access to such recreational opportunities.
LO5 – Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively.
Bal Mela was a large-scale event that required teamwork and coordination to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for the children. I helped organize and manage the sack race, where we divided responsibilities such as explaining the rules, assisting participants, and maintaining fairness in the game. Effective communication and cooperation were necessary to keep the event structured and engaging. Through this experience, I realized the importance of collaboration, as we relied on each other’s strengths to handle challenges efficiently. Working as a team, we were able to create a positive and welcoming environment, ensuring that every child felt included and had a memorable experience.
LO6 – Engagement with issues of global significance
Bal Mela was a meaningful experience that highlighted the importance of social equity and inclusion by providing underprivileged children with access to recreational activities that they may not usually experience.This event addressed the broader global issue of educational and social inequality, which affects millions of children worldwide. By volunteering and organizing activities like the sack race, I actively contributed to creating an environment where these children could laugh, play, and feel valued. Witnessing their happiness holding up my awareness of the privileges and opportunities many of us take for granted. This experience deepened my understanding of the need for community-driven initiatives that promote inclusivity, encourage social responsibility, and work toward passing over gaps in access to education and recreation for disadvantaged communities.
LO7 – Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions.
Participating in Bal Mela made me more aware of the ethical responsibility involved in organizing an event for underprivileged children. I understood the importance of treating every child with fairness, kindness, and respect, ensuring that no one felt excluded or discouraged during the activities. While managing the sack race, I made sure to create an inclusive and encouraging environment, by socializing and communicating with them to ensure that every child had an equal chance to participate and enjoy. This experience strengthened my understanding of how small actions can have a big impact, as the way we interact with others, especially those from different backgrounds that shapes their experience and self-confidence. It also reminded me of the ethical responsibility we have toward helping and uplifting others, making sure that service is done with sincerity, empathy, and a genuine desire to make a difference.
