Experience Overview
The Rural Immersion at Padamdungri provided the opportunity to engage in service, activity, and creativity by interacting with the villagers. Among the various activities like farm activities, wall painting, skit preparation, and cultural interactions, I learned helpful skills and understood rural life even better.
Learning Outcomes
LO 1: Recognize own strengths and work on areas for development
Along the way, I learned my capabilities in teamwork, adaptability, and innovative problem-solving. Instruction in mural painting helped me apply my creativity, and farm chores and forest activities helped me step out of my comfort zone and persevere.
LO 2: Show that challenges have been attempted, acquiring new skills
Activities like wall painting, bamboo craft, farm work, and forest conservation activities were challenging as I was new to rural activities. However, through interaction with local farmers and artisans, I gained practical experience in sustainable living and green practices.
LO 3: Show how to plan and approach a CAS experience
The tour entailed preparing to perform skits, planning sporting activities, and performing service activities such as school wall painting. Working together with my friends, I was able to learn skills on how to plan activities and schedule them accordingly.
LO 4: Demonstrate commitment and persistence
Physical tasks like rock climbing, agriculture, and hiking to Tornariya Dungar required determination and grit. Even when exhausted, I was still able to complete each task, building my grit.
LO 5: Show skills and advantages of collaboration
No matter whether it was doing a skit, painting walls, or farming, teamwork was required. Learning from my peers and natives enabled effortless task accomplishment while promoting respect and cooperation for one another.
LO 6: Working on issues of global concern
The tour highlighted the importance of sustainable agriculture, green handicrafts, and forest protection. Grasping the rural society’s mindset towards these matters made me appreciate all the more the importance of ecological sustainability and social justice.
LO 7: Identify and comment on the morality of actions and decisions
Through service work like teaching and interacting with the community’s children, I was sensitized further to education inequalities and the ethical responsibility to create a positive impact. Reflecting on my part in closing such gaps assisted me in developing a more compassionate and ethical outlook. Personal Reflection The immersion program was a life-changing experience, reaffirming the importance of community participation, sustainability, and resilience. The exchange of culture and experiential learning enabled me to gain a comprehensive appreciation of rural life and the value of service over academics.
