Global Odyssey

Global Odyssey was an event where students set up interactive stalls for younger students to participate in, while also raising funds for charity. As part of this event, I took the initiative to organize a Pickleball stall, where students could try out the sport in a fun and engaging way. Since a portion of the proceeds from the event went to charity, this experience counted as Service in CAS. Through this, I had the opportunity to plan and execute an engaging activity, collaborate with peers, and contribute to a meaningful cause.

Explanation of Learning Outcomes

LO3 – Initiate and plan a CAS experience

Setting up a Pickleball stall required careful planning and organization. I had to arrange equipment, create a structured activity format, and manage participation to ensure that younger students had a great experience. Additionally, I helped coordinate logistics, such as assigning roles, collecting participation fees, and ensuring smooth operations throughout the event. This experience taught me valuable leadership and event-planning skills, reinforcing the importance of preparation and problem-solving.

LO5 – Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively

Organizing the stall was not a solo effort—it required effective teamwork. I worked closely with fellow volunteers to set up the stall, manage participants, and encourage younger students to engage with the activity. We divided responsibilities to ensure smooth execution, demonstrating the importance of communication, cooperation, and shared responsibility. Without collaboration, it would have been difficult to handle the large number of students who participated.

LO6 – Engagement with issues of global significance

One of the main purposes of Global Odyssey was to raise awareness and funds for global issues through student-led initiatives. By donating a portion of the proceeds from the Pickleball stall to charity, I was able to contribute to a larger cause—helping communities in need. This experience helped me understand how small actions, like organizing an event, can have a meaningful impact on social and global issues.

LO7 – Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions

Since the event involved raising funds, it was important to ensure ethical responsibility in how the money was collected and donated. I made sure that participation fees were fair and transparent, and I ensured that the proceeds were donated properly to the designated charity. This experience reinforced the importance of ethical decision-making and accountability in activities that involve fundraising and community impact.
