Being a volunteer at Bal Mela was a very enjoyable experience. Our school prepared this event with the goal of using enjoyable games and activities to make kids from less fortunate backgrounds happy. We were split up into groups as volunteers and given various activities to lead. It was my job to supervise a football shooting activity and make sure the kids had fun while picking up new abilities.
LO2-Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process
Organizing the football shooting game was both fun and challenging. Many of the kids had never played football before, so I had to first explain the basic rules and show them how to aim and kick the ball. Some kids were excited to join in, while others felt shy or unsure about playing. Through this experience, I improved my communication skills by learning how to explain the game in a simple and interesting way. I also became more flexible, changing my approach based on how comfortable and excited the kids were. This activity taught me the value of patience, encouragement, and giving clear instructions when working with young children.
LO3-Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience
Organizing the Bal Mela needed careful planning, and as volunteers, we helped make it a success. We worked in teams to set up activities, make rules, and keep everything running smoothly. For the football shooting game, We arranged the setup, explained the rules in a fun way, and kept track of turns. Planning this activity taught me how important it is to stay organized and manage time well to run an event smoothly.
LO5-Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively.
One of the best parts of Bal Mela was working together with other volunteers. We helped each other with setting up games and guiding the children to make sure everything went well. If someone had trouble managing a big group of kids, others quickly stepped in to help. We cheered for the children, encouraged them to join the games, and made sure they were having a great time. Our teamwork made the event fun and exciting because we all wanted to create a happy experience for the kids.
LO7-Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions.
As volunteers, we were careful about what we did and the choices we made during the event. We made sure every child had a fair chance to join, play, and have fun. It was important to include everyone, be patient, and support children who were shy or unsure. This experience made me think about how important it is to act responsibly when working with others, especially young children who see us as role models.
Conclusion-Bal Mela was a very fulfilling event that made the kids happy and aided in my personal development. It showed me the results of little efforts and taught me important qualities like communication, patience, and collaboration. All of our efforts were rewarded when we saw how happy the kids were, and this experience motivated me to keep making significant contributions to my community.
