Stepping away from the comforts of urban life and immersing myself in a rural village was a truly transformative experience. As part of my school’s Rural Immersion (CAS trip) , I had the opportunity to experience how people live without modern conveniences, relying on community, sustainability, and resourcefulness. This trip was not only about observing but also about participating, learning, and growing in ways I never expected.
LO 1: Identifying My Strengths and Areas for Growth
One of the biggest takeaways from this experience was recognizing both my strengths and areas for improvement. I found that communication and adaptability were some of my key strengths, as I was able to interact with the villagers, learn from them, and adjust to a completely different way of life. However, I also realized that I struggled with physical endurance and patience tasks like mud lipan activity,Watering, cleaning, plucking and sowing and Warli Painting on wall completion with color in nearby houses from walking long distances in the heat were much harder than I had anticipated. This experience made me more aware of areas I need to work on, such as building resilience and patience in unfamiliar environments.
LO 2: Taking on Challenges and Developing New Skills
Living in a village posed many challenges that I had never faced before. Simple tasks, like cooking on a wood fire or mud lipan, required skills and effort that I had never considered. One major challenge was adapting to limited access to electricity and technology, which meant finding alternative ways to spend time and communicate. Through this, I developed problem solving skills and learned to appreciate the importance of simplicity and resourcefulness.
LO 4: Commitment and Perseverance
This experience tested my commitment and perseverance in multiple ways. Adjusting to a rural lifestyle wasn’t easy there were moments of discomfort, exhaustion, and even frustration. However, I pushed myself to embrace the challenges, whether it was waking up early to participating in physically activities. By the end of the trip, I felt a deep sense of accomplishment, knowing that I had stayed committed and adapted to the environment.
LO 5: The Power of Working Together
One of the most rewarding parts of this experience was working collaboratively with my peers and the villagers. We had to rely on each other for support, share responsibilities, and communicate effectively. Whether it was building something together, preparing meals, or simply engaging in conversations with the villagers, I saw firsthand how teamwork strengthens a community. It reinforced the idea that cooperation and mutual support are essential in any environment something I will carry forward in my daily life.
