ISSO is a tournament where IB schools from across India participate in different sports and I participated in cricket for my school . Competing in the ISSO Cricket Tournament was a fantastic experience that pushed my physical limits, challenged my ability to work in a team, and tested my mental strength. Playing for my school in this very competitive tournament forced me to hone my cricket skills, learn improved strategies, and cooperate with my team members to achieve a shared objective. Cricket is a game that requires technical skills, fast thinking, and good coordination, and this tournament provided me with the ideal platform to test myself in all these aspects.
LO 1 : Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

Playing in the ISSO Cricket Tournament enabled me to evaluate my strengths and identify areas where I needed to improve. My biggest strength was being able to keep my cool under pressure—whether it was when I was up against a challenging bowler or fielding in a critical moment, I could concentrate and make logical decisions instead of panicking . Yet, I also pinpointed the areas where I needed to develop. My accuracy in bowling had to be polished, as I tended to find it difficult to have consistent line and length. My reaction time when fielding also had tobe improved since timely decision-making is important in a fast-paced game such as cricket. Having identified these areas assisted me in defining specific objectives for my own development, both duringtraining and in upcoming games.
LO 2 : Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills.

The tournament was accompanied by a number of challenges that made me raise the bar. Playing against well-drilled teams implied that we had to think and adapt our play on the field. One of the most challenging aspects was acclimatizing to various pitch conditions and styles of bowling. As each team possessed its own strengths, we had to study their playing styles and adjust ours accordingly. I also had to build more endurance and stamina, as having to play several intense games within a short amount of time was taxing on the body. Being exposed to these situations taught me the value of fitness and toughness of mind in sports. Being challenged in this way made me a more flexible and well-rounded player, enhancing both my technical playing capabilities and my skills in high-pressure playing.
LO 4 : Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience
It was a lot of hard work and commitment to be competing at such a high level, both to prepare and whilst actually competing in the tournament. Training sessions were physically and mentally draining, particularly when we were having to tighten up our methods and develop tighter team coordination. It wasn’t always easy remaining motivated, particularly after hard-fought defeats, but determination served to help drive us through adverse times and still improve. Perseverance was also needed at match times. There were instances when we were behind, but quitting was never an option. Rather, we concentrated on being steadfast, planning our game, and doing our best until the very last ball was bowled. This experience highlighted the importance of hard work and tenacity, teaching me that success in sports—just like success in life—accrues from relentless effort and learning from failures.
LO 5 : Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively

Cricket is a team game, and success without trust and proper communication is just about impossible. Team coordination is important throughout the tournament—be it placing fielding positions, strategizing the bowling, or maintaining smooth partnerships among batsmen. Each decision had to be taken in collaboration, and we had to depend on the other’s strengths in order to perform well. Initially, we experienced some coordination issues, particularly when we were communicating under pressure. Nevertheless, as the tournament went on, we gained confidence in trusting each other’s skills, offering constructive criticism, and encouraging each other. This experience re-emphasized the value of teamwork—not only in cricket but also in any group setting. Discovering how to work harmoniously with others allowed us to enhance as a team and made the entire experience more enjoyable and rewarding.
LO 7 : Recognise and consider the ethics of choices and actions.
Ethical sportsmanship was an integral part of the ISSO Cricket Tournament. When you play competitive sports, it is easier to try to cheat or dispute the referees’ decisions, but I realized that keeping one’s head up and respecting the game is more valuable than a victory. There were instances when umpiring calls did not favor us, but instead of responding negatively, we opted to respect the calls and concentrate on our performance. We also ensured that we played fairly and respected our opponents, win or lose. These experiences highlighted the importance of honesty, respect, and self-discipline—qualities that go beyond sports and apply to life in general.
Conclusion
Playing in the ISSO Cricket Tournament was more than merely playing sport—it was an exercise of self-improvement, grit, teamwork, and moral sportsmanship. I learned more about my strengths, tested myself on areas for improvement, and understood the strategic and team-based nature of cricket.Aside from the technical proficiency, I learned the value of perseverance, adjusting to setbacks, and maintaining integrity in competition settings. Reflecting on my experience, I appreciate the knowledge gained on and off the field, and I hope to develop further as a player and a team member in the next competitions.
