BM Shark Tank

As part of my IB CAS experience, I was privileged to participate in a Business Management Shark Tank activity. This activity compelled me to be creative, work effectively in teams, and build entrepreneurial skills as my team and I developed a creative business concept and presented it to a judging panel.

From the brainstorming stage of ideas to the careful building of a convincing business plan, our team put a lot of effort into developing our idea, thus making it feasible and impactful. This involved a careful examination of market trends, financial feasibility, and selling points, while developing strong communication skills to convincingly present a convincing pitch.

standing before the judges to present our business idea was an experience that was nerve-racking yet exhilarating. However, our collective effort, thorough preparation, and self-belief were rewarded with us bagging the Best Pitch Award. This triumph did not only justify the value of our toil but also brought out the value of teamwork, problem-solving, and determination.

LO5 – Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively.

The greatest lesson learned from this experience was the worth of skills and the benefits of teamwork. Success was not the result of personal effort, but the collective result of our individual strengths. We all possessed different skills to contribute—some were better at market research, others at budgeting, and others at public speaking. By splitting the work and having each other’s backs, we were able to build a good and effective presentation.

During the process, we faced some challenges such as refining our idea to make it more practical and having to respond to last-minute changes in our presentation. However, by maintaining open communication, active listening, and commitment to our goal together, we were successful in finding solutions. Encouraging and trusting each other significantly helped in keeping us energized and positive during the final presentation.

This experience cemented that teamwork is the path to success, not only in business, but in any endeavor in life. By playing off each other’s strengths and coming together to work towards a common objective, we were able to build something more than one individual could have done individually. The BM Shark Tank experience was a rollercoaster ride that I will never forget and one that personified the true strength of teamwork in making ideas a reality.

LO 3 – Initiate a Plan and CAS experience

Of all the significant components of this experience, the most crucial was taking the initiative to create a startup concept from ground zero and nurturing it into reality through meticulous planning and implementation. We, as a team, recognized a business opportunity, set our objectives, and formed a well-planned strategy to turn our idea into a robust business model. Every step necessitated us to think critically, make sound decisions, and adjust to problems en route.

From studying the event management sector to creating marketing campaigns and business projections, we needed to make sure our company was both functional and creative. It taught me the value of strategic planning, time management, and making realistic but ambitious objectives—qualities necessary for any start-up venture.

LO 2- Demonstrate Challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills

This was not an easy experience. One of the greatest obstacles we encountered was discovering the ideal business concept. We brainstormed for hours, discussed various ideas, and whittled them down before concluding on event management. It was important to get an idea that was both original and viable, which needed lots of research and critical analysis.

Another significant obstacle was creating a solid business plan. We were required to look at a number of factors, including cost analysis, revenue creation, and marketing strategies, while our plan needed to be plausible and coherent. Because I did not have much business planning experience beforehand, I needed to learn new skills in market research, financial forecasting, and strategic planning. By doing this, I gained knowledge on how to deconstruct abstract business ideas into practical steps that will definitely guide me in other entrepreneurial activities in the future.
