Bal Mela provided a fantastic chance for me to serve by instructing less fortunate students from various schools on making keychains through macrame art. Prior to the event, I took it upon myself to learn macrame, familiarizing myself with different ways to tie knots and practicing to be able to teach well. On the day of the event, I walked the students through the process, assisting them in learning a new skill while enhancing their self-esteem and creativity. Seeing the happiness and enthusiasm on their faces as they created their keychains really made my efforts worthwhile.
LO 1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
I found out that I can quickly pick up a new ability and explain it well to others though it took some commitment from my side. However, I noticed that interacting with younger kids needs a lot of patience and flexibility, which I focused on during the time spent together.
LO 2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process
Macrame was an entirely unfamiliar craft for me, and getting the hang of it before I could show others was tough. As I learned to tie the knots, I improved my hand-eye coordination and creative skills, which I eventually taught to my students.
LO 3 – Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience
Organizing was very important for this task. I needed to make sure that the supplies were in order, the directions were clear, and that every student got the support they needed. This situation improved my ability to plan and lead.
LO 4 – Show commitment and perseverance in CAS experiences
Certain learners initially struggled with macrame, but I remained patient and encouraged, going over the steps several times until they got it. Watching them finish their keychains successfully made all the hard work feel rewarding.
LO 5 – Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively
I collaborated with other volunteers and educators to run the session smoothly. We combined our actions to guarantee that each student got assistance, highlighting how teamwork is crucial in achieving success in a service project.
LO 6 – Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance
By instructing underprivileged kids in macrame, I helped boost creativity and the growth of skills among learners who do not have many chances for activities outside of regular school. Inspiring these children to express themselves artistically was a minor move towards empowerment via education.
In the end, making the students learn macrame art was an eye-opening experience which made me grasp the skill, collaborate, and develop myself. I boosted by confidence by developing a new skill and making the kids learn it .
In the end, teaching the students macrame art was an eye-opening experience. I boosted my confidence by developing a new skill and making the kids learn it. I ventured beyond my usual limits by picking up a new skill and using it in a way that helps others. This experience improved my abilities in teaching, communication, and leadership and highlighted the value of contributing to the community. Witnessing the joy and pride of the students in what they made was the most fulfilling aspect, showing me that even little acts of kindness can create lasting effects.
