The Play2BeatCancer tournament was not just another sports event, it was a movement. As a player in the tournament, I had the opportunity to compete in a high-energy game of pickleball while supporting a cause that truly matters. The event wasn’t just about skill or winning; it was about showing our passion towards the sport and turning our participation into an positive impact for the cancer patients.
LO1: Identify Your Strengths develop areas for growth
One of my biggest strengths throughout the tournament was communication. Since I was playing in a pair, effective teamwork was essential. My partner and I quickly realized that clear and concise communication on the court was the key to success. This not only strengthened our gameplay but also reinforced my ability to work collaboratively under pressure. However, I also noticed that there are few areas of improvement on which I can work upon. I struggled a bit in reaction time in the initial matches, but as I continued to play in the pair throughout the tournament I was able to work upon my areas of growth and conquer my weakness.
LO4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences
The tournament was challenging. I had to compete against well experienced players against whom it was tough to win against. The tournament was 4 hours long and there were times I felt tired and wanted to take a break, but I kept going. I showed commitment and perseverance in this CAS experience because I gave my full potential in all the matches and with self motivation, I was able to secure an good place in the tournament as an duo.
LO5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively
Playing as a team was key to our success in the tournament. My partner and I supported each other throughout the matches, which helped us stay motivated. If one of us made a mistake, the other reassured them and kept the momentum going. This experience showed me how important it is to have proper communication skills while working collaboratively.
LO6: Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance
By joining this event, I was able to support the fight against cancer, which is a major health issue worldwide. The tournament helped raise funds for cancer research and patient support. Knowing that my participation contributed to this cause made every game feel more meaningful.
Conclusion
Participating in the Play2BeatCancer tournament was an unforgettable experience that combined my love for sports with a meaningful cause. It challenged me both physically and mentally, helping me grow in teamwork, communication, and perseverance. More importantly, it reminded me that even small actions—like playing in a tournament—can contribute to a greater purpose.
