Bal Mela

Bal Mela was a special experience that provided us with the opportunity to connect with children from less advantaged backgrounds through entertainment and interactive activities. We were volunteers responsible for the hula hoop race activity, where we made the children enjoy themselves while improving their coordination and team spirit. It was a chance for personal development in the course of making a big difference in the lives of the children.

LO2 – Breaking Down Barriers and Building Competencies

Assisting with the hula hoop racing activity was a task and required patience and adaptability. Most of the kids had never hula hooped before and were unable to get it going. Some did not want to do it because they did not think they could do it. To assist with these issues, we broke the skill into simple steps, demonstrated how to get it moving, and employed positive reinforcement to motivate the kids. This assisted me in learning how to adjust the manner in which I communicate to meet various learning rates and become more at ease with conducting a group.

LO3 – Planning and Organizing a CAS Activity

Planning and teamwork were necessary for Bal Mela to be a success. We collaborated to lay out the play area, coordinate the race design, and provide equal opportunities for all the children to participate. Running the activity required keeping everything organized, ensuring safety, and boosting energy levels to make the activities exciting. This experience improved my planning skills and how much structure matters in event management.

LO5 – Collaborating Together for a Shared Purpose

Collaboration was key to our activity succeeding. My friends and I divided the work. Some clarified the rules, while others demonstrated how to conduct the activity and assisted in coordinating the participants. Whenever an individual was struggling to coordinate a large group, others assisted. This assistance caused everything to run smoothly and made the activity enjoyable for the children. I learned that collaboration causes everything to work better and assists us in dealing with challenges easily.

LO6 – Understanding Social Inequality and Why Inclusion is Important

Bal Mela demonstrated the disparity in the way children get to play. In wealthier neighborhoods, play is structured, but these kids never got a chance to participate. Seeing them have so much fun highlighted the importance of accessible play areas. This experience taught me how much play contributes to child development and made me more dedicated to assisting with such initiatives in the future.

LO7 – Being Responsible and Creating a Good Environment

Throughout the activity, we were mindful to make the environment warm and caring. We wanted all the children, regardless of whether they were able or not, to feel welcome and loved. We ensured that those who were nervous about being involved were reassured and encouraged with gentle words. This activity helped me understand more about our role when dealing with children, particularly the need for equal and inclusive opportunities in activities in the community.

Conclusion Bal Mela was a very fulfilling experience that left a lasting impression on the children and on me volunteers. It was not just a day out—it was an opportunity to give back to children, promote inclusiveness, and gain lessons in teamwork, leadership, and adaptability. Witnessing the smiles and joy of the children made all our efforts worth it and motivated me to continue volunteering for projects that make a positive difference in my community.
