Rock climbing

I had chosen rock climbing as one of my activity since I wanted to get past my previous fear. In my PYP years, I did rock climbing as my personal sport but sustained a severe injury due to which I got scared to climb up the wall. CAS gave me the opportunity to again do rock climbing one more time. I had no intention of actually climbing till the top of the wall but I did, not once, not twice but all the four times.

I knew all the basic of rock climbing such as how to wear a harness, how to buckle up the caribbean and more. During the first session, we were taught the importance of warming up and stretching to prevent injuries.

LOI 1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
I acknowledged my physical stamina and ability to solve problems while routing the climbing pathway. Nonetheless, I faced challenges since I rocks were placed at longer distances and my hands were not able to hold it properly but I used my mental strength to motivate myself even though my arms were burning, though I did not lose hope since I had promised myself to complete what the younger me could not, and it all paid off in the end.

LOI 2 – Demonstrate Challenges Have Been Undertaken & Develop New Skills

Though I had done rock climbing in the past, there was still a fear inside me that the previous injury would occur again and I had problem while climbing since I had not planned out the climbing route properly the first time I did the activity.

LOI 4 – Show commitment and perseverance in CAS experiences

I participated in all the 4 climbing sessions even with asthenia and the concern about falling again and injuring myself. Through perseverance, I observed improvement in my climbing skills and mental toughness.

LOI 7 – Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions

Safety was a significant moral obligation. I adhered closely to climbing regulations, verified my harness and rope arrangements, and made sure to comply with protocols given by the teacher to prevent accidents.

During this rock climbing activity, I gained strength both in my body and mind, facing obstacles such as my fear of heights and enhancing my stamina. I discovered how crucial it is to keep going, cooperate with others, and stay safe, understanding that trust and good communication are vital when climbing. Furthermore, I became more conscious of ethical and environmental matters, making sure to climb responsibly. To conclude, this experience challenged me to step outside my comfort zone, improved my ability to solve problems, and highlighted the importance of dedication and discipline for personal development.
