FS got talent: 2024

FS got talent was an interschool talent event where me and my fellow band members performed a set for 4 minutes and won the competition.

LO 1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

This is one learning outcome that I applied before, durning and after the performance. Initially before this performances when I had performed various other sets in different locations with the same band, where while the sets sounded good, I noticed some flaws in my playing and coordination within the band that if fixed could improve the overall feel of the song that is being performed making it a good time for us as a band to play and for the audience to listen to. Hence, while practicing for FS got talent, I kept all of this in mind making sure to not repeat the mistakes again and improve coordination within the band by practicing for longer hours.

While that was about the weaknesses, we also used our strengths to enhance the song by changing the way the song started and be altering some riffs within the song to suit our band type and audience, which was one major reason that our band won the competition.

LO 2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills.

The challenges that we faced during the practice of this performance was the lack of free time of all the band members. This allowed me to develop 2 new skills, one being the ability to manage a team, where I had lead the team and make sure that everyone showed up to the band practice no matter what, which could be done through coordinating with all and understanding the time that they got free along with coordinating the time of the practice to them. Another skill I developed was managing my schedule as per the priority of tasks as my day is filled with an array of extra curricular’s and studies and I can not compromise any one, hence I have to manage my day so that I can give sufficient time to all with getting saturated.

Another technical challenge we faced was on the stage, where the sound of my guitar was not properly audible when we checked before the performance, that day, I was mentored by Dhurv Kapadia sir, who taught me how to properly conduct a sound check and what are the different aspects of the sound such as reverb, master, volume, echo, fx and much more and how is the sound output impact by changing each. Over here, I developed the skill of conducting a sound check.

LO 5: Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively

This learning outcome was demonstrated throughout the process where I learned how to collaborate with different people and how to make them do things without ordering them. The benefits of working collaboratively was that I learned one good aspect or trait from each band members persona that I would like to learn in order to make my life better.
