Farewell – Creativity

A Memorable Farewell: Celebrating Grade 12 with Dance and CAS Learning

The farewell event of Grade 12 was one of the most awaited events in our school. It was an emotional, grateful, and joyous evening where we bid adieu to the seniors, who had been an integral part of our journey. It was a celebration that also served as a wonderful learning experience for me, where I could reflect on various learning outcomes linked to CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service) and personal growth.

Identifying Strengths and Growth (LO1)

Being a part of the farewell dance troupe, I got to experience my strengths in performing arts and teamwork. I came to realize that I had a certain knack for rhythm, which enabled me to follow the choreography with ease. However, it also led me to realize that I needed to work on my stage presence and confidence. Through practice and giving/receiving constructive feedback from peers, I worked toward sharpening my performing skills to accommodate a more enhanced and confident stage persona.

Undertaking Challenges and Developing New Skills (LO2)

While participating in the dance performance, I was engulfed by challenges. There was a lot of hard work and commitment needed to learn and synchronize difficult dance steps in such a dwindling period. On top of this, rehearsals had to be strictly managed with the academic responsibilities at hand. Nevertheless, I viewed them as opportunities and thus for growth. I learned how to manage time more effectively while mastering new dance techniques, thus living to tell the tale of enhanced adaptability and resilience.

Initiation and Planning for a CAS Experience (LO3)

A lot of energy went into planning and coordination for the farewell event. I was on the organizing committee and my engagement was basically in the choreography, music selection, and rehearsals. This was truly a great enhancement to my leadership ability and creative problem-solving skills. Most important in the process had been to ensure that everyone was comfortable with the choreography and that everybody remained excited all through preparation.

Working Collaboratively (LO5)

The style of dance we put together shows how teamwork and cooperation brings something successful. Working with a pool of students with different abilities and experiences really took the time to show communication and a responsibility for solutions. We were encouraging each other, and giving each other constructive criticism, challenging each other to do a good job. The experience built a sense of camaraderie and honed my teamwork skills very well.

Ethical Considerations in Actions (LO7)

We were sensitive to the entire notion of consideration for other people whilst preparing the farewell event. We thought about the various personalities that danced in the performance to ensure that dance numbers were all-inclusive; perspectives regarded with various orientations focused on creating a positive climate. We attempted to help each member with needs, with varying levels of experience, during preparation periods and insisted that everyone treat their colleagues with respect.

Reflection and Takeaways

Being part of this farewell event as a dancer was not just a moment of celebration; it was a great learning curve that scaled its way to the overall growth of my personality. The journey, defined by challenges, teamwork, and ethical responsibilities, was enriching. The CAS experience brought me true learning in creativity and teamwork. On a personal note, I will treasure the memories of an event that, in great and heartfelt measure, celebrated our seniors.
