I did barista course as part of my CAS experience in DP. Barista is not something that can be pursued as a career or a full time job, I always thought that making a coffee was easy and it just needed an espresso machine to make a cup of coffee. After this course I was able to tell how hard it is to make a perfect shot of espresso.
LO1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
I used to be pretty good at making cappuccino but was not able to make a good shot of espresso because I did not use fine ground coffee powder, now I have started using fine ground coffee and it has improved my espresso game but I am still open to learning more about manual brewed coffee.
LO2 Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills
First I was unaware about manual brew coffee but after this course I got a better idea of different type of manual brew like aeropress, V60 pour over, etc. Now I can confidently say that I have somewhat learned the art of manual brew coffee.
Conclusion:
Barista course helped me enrich my coffee making play, it gave an opportunity to grow and it was exciting for someone like me who always wants to try different types of roast in coffee and learn about the taste it leaves.
