Taking part in Global Odyssey turned out to be one of the most insightful CAS activities I’ve ever done. For this event, I ran a food stall, putting into practice what I’d learned in Business Management (BM) and Economics (Eco) to sell my goods effectively. I was aiming to get a better grasp of how consumers behave, analyze market trends, and try out various sales tactics. This experience gave me a chance to tackle problems creatively, delve into real-world business strategies, and get some hands-on experience with entrepreneurship.
LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills
Setting up and managing my food stall turned out to be a lot tougher than I thought it would be. The hardest part was getting people to come to my stall instead of all the others selling food, since there were so many options. To stand out, I had to really think about how to market my food, how much to charge, and how to get people interested. Keeping the right amount of food in stock was also tricky because it was hard to guess how much of each thing I’d sell. Some items flew off the shelves, while others just sat there. This whole experience forced me to become more adaptable and quick on my feet. I had to change my plans a lot, like by offering discounts or special deals, just to get people to buy my food.
LO3: Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience
Pulling off a really successful stall took some serious planning and effort. I had to figure out what food would sell, come up with prices that could compete, make the stall look inviting, and think of a good marketing plan. Even before the event, I did a bunch of research on what people like to buy, how to price things right, and the best ways to promote it, all to make sure my stall brought in as many customers as possible. Keeping an eye on the budget was also crucial — I had to manage my money smartly to actually make a profit. Seeing all that planning pay off at the event was a huge rush and really showed me just how important it is to think things through and be well-prepared.
LO6: Engagement with issues of global significance
This experience really tied into the bigger picture of global economic and business trends, especially when it came to figuring out consumer behavior and market dynamics. I could see firsthand how different customers reacted to things like pricing, branding, and promotions, which directly related to those economic theories about demand elasticity and consumer psychology. On top of that, I became more conscious of sustainable business practices, like cutting down on food waste and using eco-friendly packaging, which totally aligned with those larger global trends towards ethical consumerism and sustainability.
Learner Profile Attributes Developed
Through this experience I developed a few learner profiles which were thinker and inquirer. Throughout this whole thing, I really had to dive deep into how the market was moving, figure out what made customers tick, and then make some smart calls about pricing and promotions. It was a constant process of trial and error – seeing what was working and what wasn’t – and then tweaking my strategy to boost sales and keep customers happy.
I went into this experience with a real desire to learn, wanting to get to the bottom of what made different consumers tick and how they made their choices. By watching and chatting with customers, I picked up on how things like price, how products were displayed, and the level of service they received played into their buying decisions. I also got to see how business and economic ideas played out in the real world, which taught me a lot more than just reading about them in a textbook.
Conclusion
Taking part in Global Odyssey and managing a food stall was a real eye-opener. It not only sharpened my business sense but also polished my ability to solve problems on the fly. I got to see how consumer choices directly impact market trends, really driving home the lessons from my Business Management and Economics classes. More than anything, the whole experience pushed me to analyze things deeply and stay eager to learn about the constantly changing landscape of business and entrepreneurship. Now, I’m really fascinated by how global markets work, and I’m excited to use what I’ve learned in future business pursuits.
