Grade 12 Farewell

The Grade 12 farewell was a memorable event to honor our seniors as they completed school and prepared for their next journey. I was part of the decorations team, where our role was to make the venue look beautiful while following the themes and guidelines given by the core committee. This made the experience both exciting and challenging. From designing invitations to creating centerpieces and backdrops, I was able to use my creativity while still sticking to the instructions. The process was enjoyable and taught me valuable lessons about teamwork, discipline, and adapting to directions.

LO1 – Identifying Strengths and Areas for Growth
Working on the decorations helped me recognize my creativity and eye for detail as strengths. I enjoyed crafting things by hand and watching my ideas come alive within the set themes. At the same time, I realized that I need to manage my time better. Sometimes, last-minute changes or tight deadlines were stressful, but they taught me how to be more flexible and think quickly. These skills will definitely help me in future projects.

LO3 – Initiating and Planning a CAS Experience
Planning the decorations turned out to be more complex than I expected. Since we had to stick to the themes chosen by the committee, I couldn’t simply rely on my own ideas. Instead, I had to figure out how to adapt my creativity to fit within the guidelines choosing colors carefully, keeping the designs consistent, and ensuring everything came together well. This taught me how to set clear goals, organize tasks, and stay focused on a plan while still working within boundaries. Seeing the finished decorations in place at the farewell was incredibly rewarding, especially knowing I contributed to making the event special for the seniors.

LO4 – Perseverance and Commitment
One of the toughest parts was waking up an hour and a half earlier every day to come to school and work on the decorations. Balancing this with homework and other responsibilities was difficult, and the actual decorations were time-consuming and complicated to make. There were times I felt drained and tempted to give up, but I reminded myself how meaningful the farewell was for our seniors. Staying dedicated through those challenges taught me the importance of perseverance. In the end, seeing the beautifully decorated venue and the happiness on the seniors’ faces made all the effort worthwhile.

LO5 – Collaboration and Teamwork
What made the experience even more enjoyable was working alongside my peers. Since we all had to follow the same guidelines, we divided tasks, shared ideas, and supported each other. Everyone brought their own strengths some excelled at drawing, while others were good at organizing. By combining our efforts, we worked more efficiently and had fun in the process. This showed me the true value of teamwork and how much more can be achieved when everyone contributes.

Overall, being part of the Grade 12 farewell decorations was a meaningful experience. It allowed me to express creativity while also learning about planning, perseverance, and collaboration. I discovered more about myself, grew as a team member, and enjoyed making the event memorable for the seniors. It’s an experience I’ll always look back on with pride and one that has prepared me for future projects.
