This is an event organised by the school staff and some of the volunteers from grade 11 to showcase their skills about business management. This is an event in which we have to set different types of stalls in which we can keep food, games, etc to entertain students and teachers visiting our stalls. In this event, my role was to manage a stall in which we could entertain the participants with some games. Our idea was a football 1v1 between me and the participants coming to the stall in which they had an opportunity to score a goal and win the money which was double the entry fee as a reward for the goal.
LO 1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
Business is basically about showcasing strengths and earning with our own talent. Hence, I decided to use one of my strengths, which were my skills in football, to earn and entertain the participants. I had used my strengths in the game, which was a football 1v1 match. I was confident about my skills and decided to challenge myself by keeping a risk to give up the profit earned and also giving an opportunity to teachers and students to challenge their own skills for their own profit. I also had a major weakness, which was attracting the audience for the activity and convincing them to participate in the activity, which was a challenging task for me. I was not able to convince the audience, which resulted in less participation for the activity of my stall and less profit. I would like to improve on my weakness so that I increase the participants for the activity, which could increase the profit margin for my stall. Now that I am fully aware of my strengths and weaknesses after experiencing this event, I will improve on my weaknesses so that I attract more population and increase the profit margin for my stall, and keep using the strengths and my talent for a better performance. It is really important for us to fully understand our strengths and weaknesses so that we can reach our maximum potential to perform better in any event. If I had worked on my weakness initially, then I would have attracted more audience for the stall and would have attracted more participants for the activity, which would result in more profit.
LO 2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process
I had to face several challenges in the whole process of this event. The first challenge was to arrange the resources from the school which were required to perform the activity against the audience. The resources which were required for the football 1v1 were goal posts and footballs. For the resources, we had to take permission from the respective charges from school and then bring them to the venue. I have performed at some similar events in school, which was a business fair in IH. This event helped me gain experience about how to manage a business stall, overcome various difficulties, use our strengths and weaknesses, etc. Another challenge for me was to attract an audience for the activity, which was really difficult. To overcome this challenge, we had to roam around in the event venue to find and invite the audience to participate in this activity. It was a really difficult task to make the audience play and participate because they were not really interested in playing. But it’s really important to undertake new challenges so that we experience different difficult tasks and use those in further events to make our performance better. It is really important to learn new skills because it would help in overcoming different barriers occurring in our way and also boosting our confidence to perform different types of activities.
LO 5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively
This event mainly includes working with a group of people together and allocating every member of the group with different tasks to manage the stall. I was in a group of 5 people, and all of the members and I had my role to participate and compete against the audience who were ready to participate in the activity. Working together with a group is generally easy for me because working collaboratively collects different ideas, which helps in better performance and understanding. It was easy to work in a group for this event compared to working alone because we had separately divided our roles, such as participation with the audience, managing profit/finance, etc, which made the work faster and in flow. It is important to work with others as it collects different information and ideas together and produces good results. Every member had experience in different roles, hence we divided every member as per their strengths to perform better.
To conclude, this event can be counted as a good experience for me as this helped me understand my strengths and weaknesses, which could help me with further events. The most relatable learner profile for this event could be risk-takers, as in order to gain profit, we had to take risks. If we lost the game, we had to double the money and give it back to the participant as a reward for participation. There is a link between the business management subject and this CAS experience as we had to showcase our skills and the knowledge we had gained in the subject. The highlight for this event was collaboration with my team members, as it was really fun working with the group members productively. From my side, this event was a success, even though we did not have a huge profit margin. We had a lot of things to learn from this event and experienced a lot. If we had to perform this event again, I would not change anything, as we had worked very hard for this event. I think our group could work on interacting with the audience more and attracting more participants for the activity. We could search for more creative ways to attract participants.
