This was a CAS Activity Experience which was organized at school. Bal Mela is an event held to invite underprivileged students to experience different non-academic activities across Fountainhead School. It is a platform for us as FS student to contribute to a humanitarian cause and volunteer in this event. I was assigned the role of social media & photography to capture the highlights of the event. On 8th Feb, I attended the event and captured videos and photos in school of the children involved in activities. It was a heart-touching experience to see all the kids so happy. Through this cause, the SDG No Poverty, Reducing Inequality and Quality Education is met and creates a larger impact.
LO1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
In Bal Mela, while conducting the photography, I was able to recognize my own scopes of improvement in the videos I captured and also make informed decisions to work on the same. I was much more efficient with my work once I’d identified my area for growth and the outcome was fruitful as well. It is significant to identify strengths and weaknesses in order to grow further and building stepping stones into any activity.
LO6 – Engagement with issues of global significance
Through Bal Mela, we were able to address the issue of Inequalities around the city amongst the students. Poor Quality of Education was also catered to and brought a change in. These are global issues waiting to be taken an action upon, also knowing they are a part of the SDGs. Knowing about these issues helped to add value to the event through the skills I had and also get a different perspective. My contribution in the CAS experience made me feel happy to be helping such underprivileged children.
This CAS experience allowed me to learn the most about other groups of students in the world and also on how a service-as-action om is catered. I was also able to demonstrate the learner profile attributes of being open-minded and caring. This was developed through the interactions with the kids and for the work we did voluntarily. I also developed ATL skills including Thinking and Self-management skills. I was able to plan the areas we needed to cover for the capturing according to the cost and thought of creative shots for the same. The CAS experience allowed me to work with a different set of people and support underprivileged children.
Overall, Bal Mela Social media was a fruitful experience for a service component and all the takeaways will help implement in real life as well.
