I served hundreds of underprivileged children from government schools and created a fun time full of activities. This was a simple yet truly wonderful experience for both me and the young students as we had a blast playing creative activities.
LO6: Engagement with issues of global significance
Many children who come from government schools do not have the chance to have a full day of fun without having to pay for anything with all of their friends. Furthermore, by creating these activities with the children, we are bolstering their social lives, creating a healthy and joyful relationship between them and school. As many know, mental health in the lives of students is one of the biggest problems in the world, especially in India with more strict schooling systems. Thus, even singular days like these can create a moment of respite that children can look back on fondly.

LO7: Recognise and consider the ethics of choices and actions.
This activity was something that was ethically the right thing to do in my opinion, with the fact that it caters to a global problem being at the forefront of reasons for the same. For these children, this day was a once in a lifetime experience, and I was so glad to be a part of that. My choice in participating in this, as well as the school’s choice in spending both time and money into organizing this is something that has impacts on all parties, yet they still did it due to the ethical benefits. We also gave out small prizes to children who won their activities, showing moral objectivity and providing free stationery to these children who might not be able to afford having it very often.

Overall, this experience was something that I will never forget and taught me a lot about the act of service and what that represents in the lives of the underprivileged.
