Rock Climbing

Rock climbing was an exciting and challenging experience that tested both my physical and mental strength. It was not just about reaching the top of the wall but also about learning essential skills like belaying, developing resilience, and working as a team. Each session brought something new—a test of endurance, patience, and problem-solving. While the activity pushed me out of my comfort zone, it also gave me a sense of accomplishment and taught me valuable life lessons about persistence, focus, and growth. Through this journey, I discovered my strengths, faced my weaknesses, and gained a deeper appreciation for the effort and discipline involved in climbing.

LO1: Identify Own Strengths and Develop Areas for Growth

One of my strengths during the rock climbing sessions was my flexibility and strong grip, which helped me climb efficiently. However, rock climbing was not just about reaching the top; I also learned belaying, a skill that is a part of rock climbing activity which requires arm strength, focus, and responsibility for the safety of the climber. Being a belayer taught me the importance of attention to detail and trust in teamwork. While I excelled at climbing, I realized I need to work on building more upper body strength to handle belaying for longer periods without tiring. This experience highlighted both my strengths and areas for growth.

LO2: Demonstrate That Challenges Have Been Undertaken, Developing New Skills

While the initial climbs felt manageable, the real challenge came in pushing myself to improve. Each time, I set a goal to complete the climb faster, which required multiple trials, adjustments in technique, and perseverance. The process taught me patience, determination, and the value of consistent effort. Additionally, learning to navigate different climbing routes helped me develop problem-solving skills, as each climb presented a new set of obstacles to overcome.

LO4: Show Perseverance and Commitment in CAS Experience

Waking up early for the rock climbing sessions was not easy, especially on days when I felt unmotivated. However, the moment I reached the climbing wall, the sense of excitement and accomplishment made it all worthwhile. Consistently showing up for these sessions required commitment, but the reward of mastering new skills and enjoying the experience with my peers made it a fulfilling journey.

Overall, rock climbing was more than just a physical activity; it was a lesson in persistence, focus, and teamwork. This experience taught me to implement the SDG goal “Good Health and Wellbeing” by promoting physical fitness, mental resilience, and overall well-being and to also push past my limits, and embrace the challenges that come with learning something new.
