Volunteering for ISSO allowed me to actively contribute to the organization of a national-level sports event. This experience helped me discover my strengths in event coordination, quick communication, and maintaining composure under pressure. I also identified important areas of growth, such as managing peak-time crowds more efficiently and improving multitasking during high-stress situations (LO1).
ISSO’s fast-paced environment meant that tasks changed quickly—one moment I was helping with registrations, the next I was assisting referees or guiding teams. This dynamic nature pushed me to develop new skills like real-time problem-solving, public speaking, and structured time-management (LO2).
Before the event, I supported the planning team by helping organize schedules, arranging materials, and assisting with branding. This involvement demonstrated my ability to contribute to planning and initiating a CAS experience (LO3). During the multi-day event, early mornings, long hours, and unpredictable demands required significant commitment and perseverance (LO4).
Working alongside teachers, coordinators, and student volunteers gave me insight into the importance of collaboration. Smooth execution depended heavily on coordinated teamwork, shared responsibilities, and constant communication (LO5).
ISSO promotes values such as inclusivity in sports, gender equality, fair play, and national integration—all of which connect deeply to global issues in youth development and equal opportunities (LO6). Additionally, I had to be ethically careful—ensuring fair treatment of all teams, not revealing results prematurely, and maintaining professionalism throughout. This made me reflect on ethical choices in service roles (LO7).
