Description of the Experience
As part of my HDP AS (Creative Media) CAS experience, I worked on designing and developing ad campaigns for the brand Mama Earth, both online and offline. My main objective was to create visually appealing and persuasive promotional materials using Canva, reflecting the brand’s eco-friendly and sustainable values. This experience combined creativity, media design, and marketing, allowing me to explore how visual communication can influence consumer behavior.
Although I worked independently on most parts of the campaign — from concept ideation to design execution — I collaborated with my peers at different stages. They supported me with technical troubleshooting, brainstorming fresh ideas, and providing feedback on product presentation and message clarity.
Learning Outcome 1: Identifying Strengths and Areas for Growth
Throughout the project, I realized that one of my key strengths lies in visual composition and aesthetic sense. I was able to design layouts that effectively highlighted the brand’s natural and sustainable image. However, I also noticed an area for growth: time management and marketing communication. I often spent too long perfecting visuals, which delayed the completion of drafts. Going forward, I plan to balance creativity with efficiency and focus on learning more about target audience analysis to make my campaigns more strategically impactful.
Learning Outcome 2: Undertaking Challenges and Developing New Skills
One of the biggest challenges I faced was learning to use Canva’s advanced features for animation and ad formatting for different platforms (Instagram stories, posters, and web ads). Initially, I found it overwhelming to ensure that each design met platform specifications without losing quality. However, after experimenting and watching tutorials, I developed new technical skills in digital design optimization and ad layout adaptation. Overcoming these challenges gave me a sense of accomplishment and improved my confidence in using design tools creatively and professionally.
Learning Outcome 5: Demonstrating Collaboration and Its Benefits
Even though this was primarily an individual task, collaboration played a crucial role. My peers’ feedback sessions helped me refine my ideas and identify what worked or didn’t in my designs. For instance, one of my classmates pointed out that my initial color palette was too muted for digital ads, which led me to experiment with more vibrant, nature-inspired tones. Working collaboratively, even informally, helped me realize the importance of collective input and diverse perspectives in creative work. It also taught me how to give and receive constructive criticism productively.
Reflection
This experience helped me integrate creativity, technical skill, and collaboration into a cohesive learning journey. I not only strengthened my graphic design and marketing abilities but also learned how teamwork and feedback can elevate individual projects. Overall, creating the Mama Earth ad campaigns allowed me to grow as a creative communicator, better understand sustainable branding, and appreciate the synergy of shared creativity.
