CAS Blog 2 – Creativity: Farewell Dance

LO1: Identifying My Strengths and Areas for Growth

Participating in the farewell dance performance was one of the most thrilling and transformative artistic experiences I’ve ever had. It pushed me to step out of my comfort zone and express myself in front of a large audience. Through the process, I discovered that I possessed strong coordination and rhythm, which made learning the choreography easier. However, I also realized that I needed to work on my stage confidence, performing in front of others initially made me anxious. Recognizing this helped me grow both emotionally and artistically, as I learned to embrace vulnerability and enjoy the energy of the stage.

LO2: Demonstrating That Challenges Have Been Undertaken and New Skills Developed

Preparing for the performance required long hours of practice, repetition, and focus. Through this dedication, I developed synchronization and performance skills, learning how to move in harmony with my team while keeping my energy consistent. I also learned how to maintain body posture, rhythm, and expression in a way that connected with the audience. By pushing through the physical and mental challenges of rehearsal, I gained a new appreciation for how much discipline goes into the art of dance.

LO3: Initiating and Planning Activities

I had the opportunity to co-choreograph and organize parts of the dance routine, which helped me exercise creativity and leadership. From selecting movements to guiding others through sequences, I learned the importance of patience and clear communication in planning a group performance. It was fulfilling to see my contributions come to life on stage and to know that my ideas helped shape the final presentation.

LO4: Showing Commitment and Perseverance

There were moments during rehearsals when fatigue and stress made me want to take a break, but I chose to stay consistent. Commitment and resilience were essential throughout the preparation process. I learned that true dedication means continuing to give your best effort, even when things become difficult or monotonous. The satisfaction of performing flawlessly in the end made all the effort worthwhile.

LO5: Working Collaboratively with Others

This experience also reinforced the power of teamwork and trust. Dancing in a group requires mutual understanding , if one person misses a beat, it affects everyone. We had to communicate constantly, adjust to each other’s pace, and support one another through mistakes. I realized that collaboration is not just about performing together, but about creating a shared rhythm where everyone contributes to the collective success.

LO6: Engagement with Global Issues

Our farewell performance symbolized unity, diversity, and cultural exchange, themes that are relevant globally. Through dance, we celebrated different musical styles and expressions that brought people together, regardless of background. This directly aligns with SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities, as performing together reflected inclusion, tolerance, and equality. It reminded me that art is a universal language that connects people beyond borders.

LO7: Considering the Ethics of Choices and Actions

Throughout the creative process, I learned to reflect on ethics and inclusivity. We made sure that every participant felt welcomed and that our choreography and song choices respected all cultures and identities. This awareness made me more sensitive to the moral aspects of performance, ensuring that creativity is always respectful, inclusive, and empowering for everyone involved.
