Participating in the cross country race was one of the most rewarding challenges I’ve faced during my time as an IBDP student. It wasn’t just about running; it was about pushing myself to the limit, building resilience, and embracing the journey of personal growth. The experience is something I’d like to reflect on as part of my CAS journey.

LO 3 : Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience
As part of my CAS journey, I decided to participate in three cross country races. This required me to initiate and plan the experience by setting fitness goals, committing to regular practice, and managing my time alongside academics. I joined these races not only to maintain my own fitness but also to promote the value of a healthy lifestyle among my peers. Preparing for the races taught me the importance of consistency, discipline, and planning ahead to balance training with other responsibilities. By taking the initiative to participate, I demonstrated that CAS experiences can be self-directed and purposeful, aligning with both personal growth and broader well-being.
LO 4 Demonstrate commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences
Training for the cross country race was no easy feat. I had to balance my academic responsibilities with hours of practice each week. Despite feeling exhausted and sometimes questioning whether I could keep going, I demonstrated perseverance by showing up every day to train. There were many times I wanted to give up, but I reminded myself that success comes through commitment. This experience taught me that perseverance is essential in all aspects of life, not just in sports.
The race itself was an eye-opening experience, as it was not just about competing against others, but about overcoming my own limitations. The sense of accomplishment I felt crossing the finish line was incredibly rewarding, knowing I had given my best effort.
Cross country taught me that the journey matters just as much as the destination, and this experience has empowered me to take on new challenges in the future, with a greater sense of confidence and resilience. Whether it’s in academics, extracurriculars, or future CAS projects, I now know the importance of embracing the journey and pushing beyond the limits.
