Project: Yearbook

The main goal was to design, organize, and publish the school yearbook, a task that required teamwork, planning, and time management. Through this experience, I developed several new skills while also learning how to work effectively with others toward a common vision.

Reflection:

LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process

One of the major challenges I faced was creativity and consistency. Designing pages that were coherent and aesthetically pleasing was difficult. I was not aware about all the important features of  Canva which was the essential tool for layout design. However, by experimenting, and seeking advice from the school’s design team, I gradually learned how to use these more efficiently. Time management was another significant challenge, especially during assessments coming back to back. To overcome this, I created a structured timeline and balanced my work. Through these challenges, I learned to manage deadlines under pressure, and gained valuable design and organizational skills.

LO3: Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience

In the early stages, our team decided that we wanted a unique and creative theme for the yearbook. To begin planning, we sat together and designed a form to collect content such as quotes, photos, and messages from students and teachers. I created the my own design layout, which we later merged with the layouts my teammates had also done. We then collaborated to finalize how each page would look, from the arrangement of pictures and captions to the color schemes and fonts. This process required clear planning, coordination, and creativity. It taught me how to contribute to the initial stages of a large project and adapt my ideas to align with the team’s shared vision.

LO5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively

Working collaboratively was one of the most important part of this experience. Every member of the core team brought different strengths. We constantly shared ideas, gave each other feedback, and made collective decisions to ensure the final product was consistent and visually appealing. We also coordinated with the school’s design team for guidance, which helped us refine our layouts and maintain a professional look.
