Althan Biodiversity is a long-term environmental project focused on creating a forest ecosystem. Their goal is to plant 35,000 trees over the coming years to establish a thriving biodiversity hub for birds, animals, and native plant species. I have always been passionate about planting trees and contributing to nature, which is why this service experience deeply resonates with me. Participating in this initiative allows me to actively support environmental sustainability, contribute to the community’s green efforts, and be part of a meaningful ecological transformation. It also gives me personal joy and fulfillment, as planting trees has always been something I enjoy and value.

LO 4: Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience
Being part of the Althan Biodiversity project required a consistent commitment to the long-term goal of planting thousands of trees. The process of planting, nurturing, and maintaining saplings is not something that brings instant results; it requires dedication over time and the willingness to return and care for the plants until they establish themselves. By actively participating in this initiative, I showed perseverance in carrying out the physical work of planting despite the effort it demanded, and commitment by contributing to a project that will take years to fully achieve its vision. This experience taught me the importance of patience, consistency, and dedication when working towards meaningful and sustainable goals.
LO5 – Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively
This project emphasized the importance of teamwork and collaboration. Planting trees on such a large scale cannot be accomplished alone, and it required collective effort to achieve progress. I worked with peers and other volunteers to organize the planting process, distribute responsibilities, and support each other in managing the physical tasks. Collaboration not only made the workload lighter but also created a shared sense of purpose and accomplishment. Through this teamwork, I learned how collaboration can build efficiency, foster stronger community connections, and make large environmental projects both achievable and rewarding.

LO6 – Engagement with issues of global significance
The Althan Biodiversity project directly engages with one of the most pressing global issues: environmental sustainability and biodiversity conservation. Planting trees contributes to combating climate change, restoring ecosystems, and providing habitats for a variety of species. It also plays a role in reducing carbon emissions and addressing the global challenge of deforestation. By participating in this project, I became actively engaged in a solution that connects local action to a worldwide concern. This experience helped me understand that even small contributions at a community level can have a significant impact on global environmental health.
Overall, my involvement in the Althan Biodiversity project was a meaningful experience that combined personal passion with collective action. By committing to the long-term vision of creating a forest ecosystem, I learned the value of perseverance and dedication to a cause that extends beyond immediate results. Working collaboratively with others highlighted the power of teamwork in achieving large-scale goals, while the project itself reminded me of the importance of addressing global issues like climate change and biodiversity loss through local action. This experience gave me both fulfillment and a deeper sense of responsibility toward protecting the environment.
