I was provided with an exciting opportunity in the form of community service this year where I had the chance to teach dance to the underprivileged students and a showcase of the performance was held on the very last day. The following journey not only let me explore my skills but also made me realise the importance of such opportunities, it humbled me with the gestures of all the students and their enthusiasm about learning something new everytime motivated me to also give my hundred percent in the work I’m doing to provide them with the best experience. I formed a connection with everyone involved in this journey and it also helped me find my strengths and weaknesses.
Learning Outcome 1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth.
I not only taught the students but also learnt many things along with them. Though I knew my passion for dance but one thing I lacked was sparing time for doing a particular activity. Through community service I learnt being dedicated towards a task, and giving the best while performing the same. Few of the times I had a lot on my plate to complete and thought of giving up on community service but I somehow managed to do multiple things on the same day by time management. This journey has helped me a lot to grow personally.
Learning Outcome 5 – Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively.
The following was a group task where we volunteers with the supports of all the students were able to accomplish. As we all worked together as a team with respect to the time, agenda and our enthusiasm towards the activity, we were able to teach the students the entire choreography before the provided amount of time in each slot which gave us time to interact with each other and enjoy some sweet moments together.
Learning Outcome 6 – Engagement with issues of global significance.
Community service provided the underprivileged students a platform where they can foster their interests and skills along with us. They were able to engage themselves in the activities that they enjoy performing but do not get the chance to learn from somewhere. Community service became the bridge between the children and the skills.
